Why do I feel sick the day after taking 75mg of benadryl?

Asked by SergeantQueen (12969points) September 9th, 2020

I take around 75mg once a week the night before school so I can sleep better. I get nausea and I feel sick to my stomach the day after.

I could be googling it wrong, but I am not finding much

75 mg is above the normal dosage. The normal dose is 25 to 50. Try taking less and see if it doesn’t affect you as badly. If it does, try getting a prescription for a low dose of zolpidem or something else.

I stopped taking Benadryl as it has unwanted side effects when it wears off.

Read the warning label in the package or ask your pharmacist about it..its addicting.

Instead I take allergy pills off the shelf and No side effects .

Many people turn to over-the-counter medicines when they need relief from allergy and cold symptoms or have trouble falling asleep. That’s why you might be concerned about a 2015 study showing that one of the most common of those drugs—Benadryl—could lead to serious health problems, including dementia.

@Inspired_2write If you read her question, she’s taking it once a week to sleep – not for allergies. It’s unlikely to be addictive when taken once a week.

Benadryl has ALWAYS done that to me. Even the 25mg’s leave me feeling hung over for 2 sometimes 3 days. I can’t remember the last time that I’ve taken one because I determined that it couldn’t be good for me!!!

Can you drink hot tea??? When I can’t sleep, I drink a good hot cup of herbal tea about 30 minutes before I want to go to bed & it seems to help relax me with NO side effects!!!

@janbb
I was addressing the addicting effects of Benadryl regardless of why she was taking it.
But just clarifying that, yes I understood her question.
