Why does Galactus wear such a goofy helmet?

I looked at a listing of images, and the helmet is drawn in many different versions, but they all have those two antennas coming out of the ear area. Maybe he is deaf and they are hearing aids.

Those two prongs sticking up aren’t on his helmet, they are part of his collar. I think he must have broken his neck and those are to keep him from twisting his head too much.

Because he’s a goofy comic book character?

@zenvelo on the images page, one has him taking off the helmet and it includes the (arms)antenna. However there are multiple variations in the drawings. In one, the helmet looks like a bishops headdress with wings. In another, it resembles a second head with horns.
