I know about the SNL skit with Will Ferrell, but was that an original SNL idea or was the skit a parody of someone/something else? (I did search for ‘cow bell’ here on Fluther, but all I found was a Q about Christopher Walken)

For anyone that doesn’t know what I’m talking about here’s the skit
Here’s the scoop on it for ya marissa. It’s just satire.
Thanks scamp! I’m feeling like a bit of an idiot, I never thought to check wikipedia
You’re very welcome. I just found it while trying to think of a way to explain the humor in it to you.
You might also enjoy this list of other songs of the time that featured the cowbell. It had a brief heyday during the early rock era. The list includes my favorite one-hit wonder “Incense and Peppermints” by Strawberry Alarm Clock.
More cowbell!
@ marina – I have been meaning to make a mix. thanks girl!
About 4 years prior to the SNL skit there was the “Cowbell Solo!” in Cannibal: the Musical by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. It’s worth checking out… in a strange sort of way. :^>
