I use Bisquick to make a sweet dough that has the consistency of bread dough. Spread it into a greased cake pan then pour a fancy canned pie filling over the dough. (Any pie filling, I like blackberry, raspberry, marionberry, whatever you like.) Bake at 350 degrees until a toothpick comes out clean, serve with Half and half. The dough will rise up over the pie filling and the pie filling will drop through the dough.

Cooked white rice. Add fruit cocktail. And stir in a whole container of cool whip. Stir and refrigerate untill chilled. Dish up and serve cold.

Toast two Eggo waffles, top with lots of butter, add your favorite fruit, cashews and syrup. For a special treat, add icecream.

In a casserole pan, crush 60 oreos. Pour a melted stick of butter over it. Stir and even out.
Freeze it.
Melt a gallon of vanilla ice cream. Pour over frozen oreos.
Freeze.
Melt 24 oz. of semi sweet chocolate chips with a can of evaporated milk.
Pour over ice cream.
Freeze.

You’ll love it. It’s called Mud Pie.

I’ve got to stop following this question. It’s making me hungry! :-)

My favorite dessert recipe that I make or have made, would probably be strawberry shortcake. Just a regular box mix cake, real whip cream, real strawberries and also frozen strawberries for the middle layer, because they’re sweet and syrupy and the syrup soaks into the cake. I like this cake refrigerated so it’s cold and creamy and kind of mushes together like a pudding after one day.

Iced pumpkin cookies from Allrecipes. Really like little cakes. I don’t make the icing, I just like the cookies without icing (but the recipe I search for is called Iced Pumpkin Cookies).

Anisette sponge. It reminds me of my grandmother. It’s a soft biscotti (so it’s baked once whereas biscotti is baked twice).

Homemade apple anything – apple cake, apple pie.

Crustless coconut custard pie which is on the back of the Baker’s Coconut bag or online. You use Bisquick and it forms a crust of its own without actually having to make a crust.

Once I made a really easy ice cream cake which takes ice cream sandwiches and layering them with Chocolate Shell (which is the chocolate syrup that turns hard when it hits something cold like ice cream) and whip cream. You layer the ice cream sandwiches with the chocolate shell and cover it with Cool Whip or whip cream. Freeze it and it’s an ice cream cake. It’s rich but good.

My mom made a regular chocolate no bake cake with chocolate wafer cookies and whip cream. You layer them and chill, and the cookies get soft like cake. Good and easy.

I don’t like really sweet things. I like sweets but not cloyingly sweet.

If I make desserts or quick breads (pumpkin, cranberry, banana) at home, after about two or three days I get sick of it because it’s only me eating it. I really need to remember to try to half the recipe next time, so that I don’t end up throwing it out.

I have a recipe for Trisha Yearwood’s No Bake Rocky Road Bars which I want to try. It’s chocolate with two types of nuts and small marshmallows. If I make it, I might add coconut to it.

@jca did you ever end up making that wonderful sounding Jamaican black cake? As I recall it was sort of like a rum cake.

jca2's avatar

No, I never did, @Kardamom. I still intend to make it one day.

What happens with me, when I bake anything, is that I get sick of it after a few days. That’s a holiday cake because it’s dense and heavy. Maybe I’ll try halving the recipe and making it around the holidays this year.

@jca When I bake, I usually double the recipe and freeze one of the cakes, or bread loaves. You can even slice your cake, and freeze individual pieces, wrapped, and stored in a ziplock, or tupperware, to pull out whenever you like. I just busted a strawberry bread loaf out of my freezer today.

I would have to say an Oreo Pie. It was something I would make a lot in the past but I haven’t gotten around to making it again. (I mainly like to make banana bread when I can.) Here’s a youtube video on how to make it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SsG8aGkHxKc
