The old house, the classroom, the tower, the tree, the town. What has time done to your memory of size and scale?
Has anything ever turned out to be bigger than you remember it?

Trees. Trees are often bigger than I remember, but that makes sense, because they grew lots and I didn’t. :-)
Yes, and I don’t think the shrinkage was caused by cold water. ;-o
I haven’t been by my family home since we sold it, except every night while I sleep.
Old cars are smaller. I have seen old cars like my family had, and I wonder how we all fit.
Sorry, but that is between me and my priest.
Yeah my Grandparent’s house as a kid the place seemed huge, now not so much.
I don’t think I am a senior yet, but….In my late 20s I went back for a tour of my old grade school. And yes, it seemed a LOT smaller.
It doesn’t have to do with the physical size we were. either. I first was six feet tall the summer I turned sixteen—and places I visited such as on church family camps and youth retreats, and grandparents’ houses—all seem much smaller. I am surprised they comfortably held all the people. My elementary school only had sixteen classrooms and a couple of portable buildings, but had over a thousand kids. It doesn’t make sense mathematically but we were never even crowded.
Last summer I visited the house where i grew up. It felt small. My memories of the house were of it being much, much bigger.
I looked up the square footage of the house. It’s only 100 square feet smaller than where I currently live. However, this house has a very open floor plan, unlike my childhood house.
^^^100 sq feet? Thats like, 10 ft by 10ft….bedroom sized.
Twenty five years ago I visited my childhood town. The only thing that looked smaller are the yards. They looked so much larger as a child. Everything else looked the same although my house looked rundown. It was a magical experience going up north again.
I’ll have to take the Fifth on that. Memory ain’t what it used to be. I can’t even remember what I had for breakfast today.
