Bars on windows, no privacy, no curtains, no carpeting. Stark, painted concrete.

It isn’t that they are designed to be uncomfortable, it is just that comfort is not a design consideration.

The mass murderer Anders Brevich, from (Denmark or Finland), could be released in a soon as 2023. He was calling his prison experience abuse because he only had a PlayStation 2.

The food is horrible.
If you have to use the bathroom you have to do it within sight of everyone.

First, you’re locked up.

Steel beds fixed to the wall. Thin mattresses. Cinderblock walls. Residue of prior occupants. Dirt. Rodents. Noise. Cold. Odors. Short, cold, infrequent showers. Cellmates. Bullies. Lockdown. Disrespect and sometimes outright mistreatment by guards.

And food and toilets.
