Have you ever posted a picture on Facebook, only to have it come back across your feed years later?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) October 26th, 2020

A friend on FB posted this picture just last summer.
I stared at it for a while because it was so interesting, and the colors were awesome….but something else was bugging me. Then it hit me….that was a picture I took 9 or 10 years ago, at a motel in Missouri and shared with Facebook.
I showed it to Rick and he was even able to name the motel. It had tables and chairs outside of the room. That’s where we spent most of our time. It was our favorite motel.
Does this mean the picture went viral?

All the time. It does a “remember this picture from 9 years ago” frame. Usually of the grandkids.

This didn’t come up in my memories. A Facebook friend posted it to their timeline.

(copied) According to Urban Dictionary, something that “goes viral” is an image, video, or link that spreads rapidly through a population by being frequently shared with a number of individuals. ... If it receives 40,000 hits in 4 hours, but then dwindles, it could still be considered “viral”

Well, my picture had been floating about for 9 or 10 years, and then it came back to me.

Tell me when it hits 40,000 hits !

Hasn’t come to me from Missouri or Kansas !

Why not write a pm to the friend who posted it and ask where they saw it? That might solve the mystery.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I don’t remember who it was.

Maybe your friend went to the same motel.

I took the picture. I had shared it years earlier.

@Dutchess_III Nice pic, but a pic of a motel went viral? I think some people need to get a life. Not meaning you of course, just folks who would be so taken with a pic of a motel. I mean a bad ass tsunami or tornado, something like that, I can see that. But a motel? Go figure.

@Dutchess Is that exactly how you remember the photo? There could be a slight difference in the angle or something like that but you don’t remember and mistakes this for the photo you took earlier. It’s been 10 years after all.

If you have posted it on FB, maybe you can go dig through your profile to see if it’s still there…

@Nomore_lockout and Mimi…that is my picture. When I saw it 9 years after I posted I went to my “Sunset” file for pictures and that pic is there. I have a lot of good ones and that was one of them.
To me it was just wild how one of my pictures showed up 10 years later!

@Dutchess_III I’m looking around for that Rod Serling dude again….

Dutchess_III's avatar

That’s kind of how I felt!

It wasn’t the subject that was awesome. It was the crazy vibrant colors @Nomore_lockout.

@Dutchess_III Agreed, Great photo. Just wonder how it got lost in the ozone for all those years.

Dutchess_III's avatar

That’s what I wonder! Obviously it was shared more than once.

On FB, it depends on how access is set in an individual’s profile. A “friend” may have the ability to access your photos posted, no matter how old. It isn’t hard to copy and paste.
