I have a problem: my computer doesn't recognize multiple files at once. How do I solve it?

Asked by luigirovatti (2950points) November 10th, 2020

I’ll explain it this way: I select the first file, then I press SHIFT+left click of mouse of the file I want the selection to end. The problem is this: I wanted to add to archive the files, but it’s recognized just the last file I clicked. To be exact, the file where the selection ended. So, what do I do to solve this problem? Help me!

What application are you in? Where’s the list of files? Are you talking about something like Windows Explorer?

I’m on Windows 10. I don’t wanna take a screenshot right now. I wouldn’t even know how to show it. Anyway, yeah, Windows Explorer.

Well, I’m no computer whiz or troubleshooter, but let’s see if I understand the question anyway.

You’re looking at a folder display in Windows Explorer and you see a list of files like this:

File01
File02
File03
File04
File05
File06
File07
File08

You want to select a group of them, and so you highlight the first one you want

File01
File02
File03
File04
File05
File06
File07
File08

and then you move your cursor down to the last one you want, say File06, and press Shift+left click. You expect to see this:

File01
File02
File03
File04
File05
File06
File07
File08

But you don’t. Instead you just see this:

File01
File02
File03
File04
File05
File06
File07
File08

Is that right? I mean, is that a correct description of your problem?

Let’s just say an archive is created just for File06.

Winrar, you know.

I just tried it with a list of files on my computer. PC using Windows 7. I just clicked on the first file name I wanted and then went down to the last file I wanted and then hit Shift and left click and they were all selected. It seems like the mistake you are making is hitting the Shift key on the first file.
