Will you trust and take the Covid vaccination?

Asked by chyna (51636points) November 16th, 2020 from iPhone

Moderna and Pfizer have came out with a vaccine that is 90— 94.5% effective. Will you take it and do you trust that there will be no really bad side effects?

Once my doctor gives it the thumbs up, sure.

anniereborn's avatar

Not until many people take it before me first.

If my MD gives it and me the green light, then absolutely. Not only will I be safer, but I’m also making everyone around me safer too. That’s an important responsibility.

canidmajor's avatar

If Fauci endorses it, I will be happy to take it. I know I won’t see it for a long time anyway, I am low priority. That’s OK, I have books and wine and coffee stockpiled. ;-)

cookieman's avatar

If Fauci endorses it and my doctors at Mass General give me the go ahead, then yes.

chyna's avatar

I will take it.

ragingloli's avatar

Only the one developed in Schland.
I do not trust colonial pfusch.

Jeruba's avatar

If Dr. Fauci does, I will.

LadyMarissa's avatar

Fauci is saying that he’s impressed but he hasn’t gone as far as to say that he’s ready to take it. I’m in the age group that should be taking it, but my trust level isn’t up to where my need level is, so I’m doing my best to keep an open mind until I can see for myself what actually happens once people start taking it. I know that strange side effects came out years after the Flu shot was first given, Guess that puts me in the wait & see category!!!

LuckyGuy's avatar

I am in a relatively safe place, don’t go out much, and interact with only a few people. If Dr. Fauci says to go for it, I will proudly roll up my sleeve – eventually.
I’ll let other people go first while l wait a little while.

As the saying goes: “It’s the second mouse that gets the cheese.”

Darth_Algar's avatar

Like I said in a previous thread on this – with some time, if it’s proven safe and effective and under the advisedness of my doctor, sure.

Kardamom's avatar

If Dr Fauci and Dr. Gupta give it the green light, and my own doctor is advising it, then yes, absolutely.

LadyMarissa's avatar

@chyna They were saying on our afternoon news that the Pfizer drug has to be kept at a temp that most dr offices & pharmacies can’t maintain with their current equipment. I’ve NEVER trusted Pfizer. I don’t know enough about Moderna to know whether they are trustworthy or not. I just hope our resident doc can enlighten us on the subject.

Jeruba's avatar

In an address just now, broadcast live and before the press, Joe Biden said (in answer to a question) that he would take the vaccine if the pharmaceutical provider and Dr. Fauci say it’s ok to go ahead.

johnpowell's avatar

Yup. Sign me up.

That reminds me. Time to fire up mychart and contact my GP about getting a flu shot before they get slammed with covid stuff.

rebbel's avatar

If Dr. Zhivago and Dr. Phil endorse it….

filmfann's avatar

If Fauci endorses it, I will get it.
I prefer the Moderna drug, since it doesn’t require sub-zero stroage.

chyna's avatar

@filmfann I agree, it will be easier to store Moderna and less likely damage could be done to the vaccine itself if there was a temperature change.

Incoherency_'s avatar

Only if I can smoke it or eat it in the form of a brownie! ;-D

janbb's avatar

Yes. I’ll take it when it is approved by reputable experts.

LadyMarissa's avatar

Pfizer is now in a battle with the current administration as to how much the government had to do with it & how much they were paid & whether or not it’s politically motivated. I’m just glad that we have 2 choices now…at least I have an option!!!

Kropotkin's avatar

Yes. I’ll very gladly take it.

cookieman's avatar

I think they should give out a chocolate chip cookie with every shot.

LadyMarissa's avatar

OMG…choc chip cookie…I’m in!!!

Of course I will take a vaccine. Why the hell wouldn’t I?

I doubt Pfizer is in a battle with the government over their role in the release. It’s an illogical argument. Neither Pfizer nor the current administration have a single thing to gain over winning such an argument.

Darth_Algar's avatar

@Dutchess_III

You are familiar with the current administration, right?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yes. I am familiar with the current administration. What do they have to gain from winning such a ridiculous fight? The election?

What does Pfizer have to gain?

ragingloli's avatar

You are aware they are working on staging a coup d’état?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yeah I know. Still don’t see the relevance.

chyna's avatar

@Caravanfan I knew you would, but I read an article that said 60% of the people would not take it. I don’t know if that means worldwide or in the US only. And of course I can’t find the article now.

Dutchess_III's avatar

BTW I see 0 evidence that Pfizer is currently in a lawsuit with the government over the Covid vaccination. The most recent action is from June of 2020 and has nothing to do with the Covid vaccine.

Darth_Algar's avatar

@Dutchess_III “Yes. I am familiar with the current administration. What do they have to gain from winning such a ridiculous fight? The election?”

Are you sure? You seem to be under the assumption that the current administration operates with any kind of rationale or logic.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I understand that. But there is NO current battle, that I could find mention of, between the administration and Pfitzer. @LadyMarissa was mistaken.

sadiesayit's avatar

I don’t think she was referring to a legal battle. It’s been an optics battle. The Trump admin wants credit for something they didn’t do (what’s new?)

LuckyGuy's avatar

I heard an interview with Dr Fauci yesterday. He talked about the vaccine’s efficacy, (in the 90 to 95% range which is fantastic), production, and delivery schedules.
He estimates 20–25 million doses available around the end of the year. These will likely be given to people in critical, high risk positions like health care workers. emergency services, etc.
There will be a phase-in as production ramps up. He estimates the general public will start receiving doses in the May June time frame.
I will gladly take it then and will encourage everyone I know to do so.

Dutchess_III's avatar

^^ duh yeah!!

crazyguy's avatar

Based on the answers on this thread (most of them by Trump haters) I am convinced that the poll which showed a majority would not take the vaccine was wrong. So what is new?

As I stated on a different thread, Pfizer received no funding from Operation Warp Speed for development of their vaccine. However, they did receive a $1.5 billion contract for manufacturing the vaccine.

Dutchess_III's avatar

^^^Source please

jca2's avatar

@crazyguy: As for whether or not I’d take the vaccine, I can’t take any vaccine because of an auto-immune disease that I had. The neurologist advised me not to take any vaccines ever again.

janbb's avatar

@crazyguy The difference is not between Trump haters and non-Trump haters, it is between people who believe in science and those who distrust it. Obviously, the polls you have read surveyed a different population.

(Not everything in the world has to do with Trump.)

chyna's avatar

Thank you @janbb! Apparently some people think the world revolves around trump.

jca2's avatar

@chyna: Maybe they’ll make shrines to Trump in their homes, and every day they can wake up and light candles and bow down to him, and cry about his leaving.

crazyguy's avatar

@janbb @chyna Actually, that is true. The world has been revolving around Trump for Trump fans like me and Trump haters like CNN. What will poor CNN do?

I know what I will do. Go back to not watching any news_ (much to my wife’s delight!)

Darth_Algar's avatar

@crazyguy

Will you tear your clothes and wail in the street when he’s gone?

jca2's avatar

Trump fans think Trump is coming back in four years, which, I’m sure he’d like to but with his obesity, I’m betting he’ll be infirm.

canidmajor's avatar

@crazyguy will you bother to actually answer the question?

crazyguy's avatar

@canidmajor Of course. I will take the vaccine the same day it is made available to me.

janbb's avatar

I was just at my ankle doctor’s office and he said he will gladly take the vaccine when it is offered to him. He said that it is even safer than other vaccines which depend on infecting you with a small amount of the virus; this one works via a protein.

Reassuring news.

crazyguy's avatar

Just a quick recap. I counted over 20 yesses, 2–3 maybes and 5–10 laters. ZERO no’s. I think we’ll be in a good place soon.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Heard on the radio vaccinations will be available starting tomorrow. They said it may mean the end of the pandemic!

cookieman's avatar

Here’s how they plan to roll out the vaccines here in Massachusetts.

I’m in Phase 2.

Brian1946's avatar

Hopefully they’ll be using round containers to facilitate the ROLLout. ;-)

crazyguy's avatar

@cookieman The link you provided, gives details of phases 2 and 3. I have not seen that for any other state. Thanks for the link!

If you get yours in Feb, that will be awesome!

cookieman's avatar

You is welcome @crazyguy.

Fingers crossed.

I trust them and have taken all three.
