My son had two spiders in his bug house and I swear one began to devour the other. Do spiders attack and eat each other?

Yes. Extra- and intra-species.

It was completely disgusting. Spider A was probing the guts of the Spider B and then goo would spill out, and it looked like it was eating it. Then it lifted Spider B up in the air with this probe thing stuck inside of it, then it threw him down on the ground. Spider B
appeared to remain living during the entire thing. Horrifying!

Here in the Philippines people fight spiders for fun. Even the kids do it. Grown-ups also bet on the fights. It’s kinda fun to watch. They take 2 spiders and place them on a stick with a spider on each end. The spiders meet in the middle and then they fight – to the death.
Well you do know that the female spider kills and eats the male after sex, right?
Also its to bad you didn’t record the whole spider A eating spider B thing, that would have been awesome.
@trogdor yeah, and example is the Black widow. female black widow spiders are also bigger than males… hehe… i used to watch a lot of Discovery and National Geographic…
hmmmm maybe i could record a fight someday. also, people put them in match boxes. dividers are placed inside the boxes and small compartments – usually 1.5×1.5cm – contains 1 spider… not all spiders “fight” though…
@wenbert
that would be awesome if you could record a fight and post it on youtube. Actually I am going to go search spider fights right now…maybe I will find some good ones to post up here.
Here is a good fight, even though there is an ant in the fight as well.
youtube is blocked from where i am at right now :-( sux
