After 4 years of Trump, it is once again time to ask the lingering question: did Putin get his money’s worth?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) December 13th, 2020 from iPhone

Actually, it must have been the greatest return on an investment in the history of the world.

Honestly I’m glad this Russiagate BS is going away. Democrats were obsessed with it because they couldn’t be bothered to care about more important issues. And it went nowhere.

mazingerz88's avatar

Short answer. Many times over. The last thing Putin wanted was Hillary as President.

gondwanalon's avatar

@rockfan You got that right. Pure BS.

LadyMarissa's avatar

Oh yes & he got an unexpected BONUS!!!

si3tech's avatar

Putin was not involved.

LadyMarissa's avatar

i wish I lived in LaLaLand!!!

kritiper's avatar

If all he wanted was to make the US look bad and get a good laugh out of it, yes.

Hamb's avatar

Russiagate is QAnon for liberals.

LadyMarissa's avatar

Then WHY did 45 immediately go into submissive pose when Putin entered the room???

SQUEEKY2's avatar

I saw that @LadyMarissa Trump was like cowering towards him, I told Mrs Squeeky look at Trump towards Putin ,I said if Putin turned to him and said blow me Trump would have been on his knees in a heartbeat.

My only thought is – -

Did Putin only pay the interest on the Russian loans for Trump or principal and interest ?

One can debate endlessly whether or not Russia interfered directly or indirectly in the 2016 election. But there should be no debate that for whatever reason, Trump has toadied up to Putin for years and that it was in Putin’s interest to have him installed as President.

The point is that Putin was happy to have Trump making a mess of America’s standing in the world and destabilizing our alliances. I had read early on that Putin had no particular goal for a weak president in the US except to create chaos and in that, Putin has certainly succeeded. I also have read that Trump’s interest in Russia and his kowtowing to Putin has a lot to do with his business interests in Moscow.

Yes and possibly own Trumps Moscow tower as well..bribes anyone?

@Call_Me_Jay

None of that supports Trump being a puppet of Russia, which is what all this Russiagate nonsense is about. Trump has actually escalated tensions with Russia with sanctions. Trump is more of a puppet to Saudi Arabia and Israel, but the media is afraid of stating these facts because they’re afraid of being called anti-Semitic and Islamaphobic

SEKA's avatar

He didn’t do anything for Israel. Jared and Ivanka did, so he kept peace in his family by making his daughter happy,

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@rockfan . . So this didn’t happen with Flynn talked with Russia’s ambassador . .

Oh that’s right after Flynn caught jail time; co-conspirator Trump commuted his sentence.

It is great when you break the law for a Dictator, he’ll let you out of jail.

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

That’s the dishonest dodge you have been taught to repeat, yes.

Normal people:
“Trump was a tool of Russia. ”

Fools:
“Stop saying that. He was not employed by Russia! He was not a Russian spy!!”

janbb's avatar

@SEKA My suspicious nature tells me that Jared’s main motivation in the middle east is to further his business interests, not for peace. Full disclosure, he has been building like crazy in a nearby shore town to me.

Trump need not be a “puppet” at all for our woes to be abetted, if not perpetrated, by Russia. That false dilemma is blinding. Puppet or no puppet? That isn’t the question at all. Why bother to pull his strings when millions of ordinary Americans are so easily conned and manipulated? He’s just one of them, the one with the loudest bullhorn.

I don’t think Trump is worth much to Putin because he’s too impulsive and unreliable and way too self-centered. But owning some immovable rocks in the House and Senate would suit Putin’s style. So would shutting down independent news sources such as the local newspaper and bookseller you used to have.

The Russians are patient. They play the long game. The forces have been in play for a long time, decades. They’re probably sensing the prize is near, but they won’t have won until the U.S. pays, with steep interest, for the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991. We have a lot of tears to shed yet before Putin is satisfied.

Trump adores dominate males. They are a father figure to him and he’ll stop at nothing to get their approval. He has no ethics either, and he doesn’t give a shit about America and her people.
So yeah. Putin got whatever was in trump’s power to give him.

filmfann's avatar

What did he get for his money?
Incompetent leadership in the West.
Chaos in the West.
And end of America standing in the way of Russian expansion.

Exactly what he wanted.

stanleybmanly's avatar

Whether Trump colluded with Putin or not is just as @Jeruba claims, irrelevant to the incalculable windfall Putin accrues through the spectacle of an obnoxious idiot at the helm of the United States. Supposedly the most powerful nation on earth irrevocably humiliated and embarrassed at the behest of a tasteless and clueless loudmouthed practical joke. Worse than the idiot himself is what he implies concerning a populace which would elevate so visibly defective a scumbag to the highest office on earth.

I’m waiting for the ‘pee tape’ to surface now that Trump is on the way out.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Don’t hold your breath @elbanditoroso who ever has that will keep it for safe keeping just in case The Don Father does make a come back in 2024.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 I think the tape is in Vlad’s hands.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

I would tend to agree with you on that. @Tropical_Willie ^^

Call_Me_Jay

Ironically, I think you’re the one that is dodging, you can’t admit that Trump is a puppet to Israel and Saudi Arabia, because the democrats are guilty of the same thing. Both the republicans and democrats are corrupt.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

I totally agree with that^^ I just think the democrats are a little less corrupt.

filmfann's avatar

Once this presidency is over, Democrats will probably go back to stabbing each other in the back.

I said nothing about Saudi Arabia or Israel. Anything else you want to imagine about me? Any more words you want to put in my mouth? Any more false dichotomies you want to type out for us?

Trump is easily manipulated. Anybody with an authoritarian air can guide him with flattery. Putin does it. The Saudis do it. Turkey had him sell out the Kurds.

His “pro-Israel” talk is designed to please American evangelical voters. He was pandering to them with appearances on “Christian” TV before his golden escalator ride in 2015.

rockfan's avatar

Well you said my comment was a dishonest dodge, when I’m simply talking about the facts. But I’m sorry for assuming things about you, that wasn’t cool. However, it seems like you have a larger problem with Putin and Russia, and the facts are not there. The Mueller report found no collusion. My main point is that the Russiagate nonsense is a dodge by establishment democrats because they don’t want to criticize their own party with the corruption within in the Democratic Party.

Rachel Maddow spent an ungodly amount of time obsessing over Russiagate and NEVER ONCE did any discussion on the failures of Hillary Clinton or the DNC.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Why does everyone say there was no collusion in Mueller’s report, when he did say there was collusion just not enough to build any kind of a case on.
so that means no collusion?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Because trump said there was no collusion about a hunnert times so it MUST be true.

Jeruba's avatar

He said there was enough to build a case on, but it wasn’t up to him to build it. He put the materials out there, the facts. Congress didn’t pick them up. Instead, Barr twisted it: he could say “no collusion” because Mueller didn’t use the word “collusion”—it’s not a legal term.

Brian1946's avatar

@Dutchess_III

Once trump has said it a towzint times it’ll be tent times as true!

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

Obstruction is what Trump could be charged with for interfering with the investigations, but Mueller declined to indict a sitting president.

Trump campaign & administration associates convicted for financial crimes and lying to investigators and Congress:
Manafort, Flynn, Cohen, Gates, Stone, Pinedo

Dozens of Russians were indicted for meddling, but can’t be tried unless they feel like coming over for prosecution.

USA Today – Mueller’s investigation is done. Here are the 34 people he indicted along the way

I was pleased to read on the BBC that even Putin has betrayed trump. After the Electoral College official count yesterday that Putin decided to make it officially official by congratulating Biden on his win. Since trump does whatever Putin tells him to do, maybe he’ll crawl back in the hole from whence he came
