For the second time I heard an accusation from someone I trust (this time it’s my grandson). He tells me that Apple deliberately throttles down the speed of its older products to spur their replacement with the latest equipment. Anyone here ever heard this?
I was telling the kid that my iphone 6 was sluggish, and he dropped this news on me. He was surprised that I was unaware of this particular conspiracy theory.

I cannot tell you how grateful I am that you found that article and posted this link. I consider it a terrific Christmas present and intend to make appropriate use of it! THANK YOU @elbanditoroso
How in the world have you not heard of this and the lawsuits?
It is old news, and yes, they did.
I have no excuse for my apparent ignorance, other than the fact that had I heard it, I probably would not know what to make of it.
I’ve heard similar things.
I was aware of this. It’s shameful.
Not only that, but they also push software “updates” to newer versions that are designed for newer phones, and may break compatibility and/or be slower and problematic due to being designed for different and more powerful hardware.
This is very true, and has been happening for a while. That said, it doesn’t mean the latest equipment.
I have the first iPad Pro, a MacBook Pro, and an iMac — all from 2015, running the latest OS’s, and they all zip along very nicely.
So, it’s more new-ish equipment.
I had an I phone 6 and Apple sent me a coupon for a new battery because they were caught red handed doing this. The battery was not free, just discounted. I think I paid 25.00 for it and Best Buy installed it. It ran pretty well for about a year and the battery started running out of power quickly, same as before. I bought an I phone 12 this past spring. It doesn’t seem to run out of battery as quickly.
So yes, I knew this in 2018, got the new battery December 2018, it lasted until December 2019 before dying quickly.
Yes, it is true &according to a computer repair friend of mine, both Apple & Microsoft do the same things to computers to get you so frustrated that you’ll buy a new computer as well!!!
IF you get any of Apple’s phones wet, they will tell you that your info cannot be recovered. When, in fact, there are several repair people across the US who can recover your info (especially photos) giving you a copy.
