Do know of any instances, of an actor doing a cameo appearance in their own movie?
In “Any Given Sunday” , a film about the business side of the NFL, Charlton Heston did that. I thought it was weird.

There is one scene in that movie, where Heston is talking to someone, I forget the exact circumstances, but Ben-Hur is playing on a widescreen T.V. mounted a wall in the back ground. Self Promotion, or Oliver Stone trying to be artsy?
Alfred Hitchcock, I believe, did this several times.
Stan Lee is in all of his movies.
Yes as @si3tech says, Hitchcock is known for it.
Stephen King appeared in his book made into a movie The Stand. The first one, not the new one out now.
Ok, but I think it was strange the way they pulled that off. The chariot race scene between Heston and Stephen Boyd is clearly visible, directly behind Hestons Any Given Sunday character.
The Mouse That Roared
Peter Sellers had three roles
@Tropical_Willie I think Sellers did that in Dr. Strangelove too. Probably my favorite film. He played the POTUS, the RAF liason officer to General Jack D. Ripper, and Dr. Strangelove as well. Lol
Eddie Murphy. The nutty professor.
Quentin Tarantino is in most if not all of his films.
John Favreau in Iron Man 1 and 2.
I don’t see an actor playing multiple roles in a film as the same thing as a cameo role, which is a small appearance in a film.
Good point. I just thought Any Given Sunday did that with Heston in a kind of circuitous way. And it makes no sense as far as the plot is concerned. @janbb
Yeah, I get your point and I think it is pretty rare and for good reasons (rarer and different from playing multiple roles, or from the director, writer or producer making a cameo appearance).
I’m not thinking of other cases. Seems like something that might be in a Mel Brooks film where he also plays a role. It’s so likely to break audience immersion, unless maybe the main role is disguised (or the way you mentioned).
M. Night Shymalan has done it several times, to really bad effect. He actually cast himself as the hero in Lady in the Water, which was a huge vanity project for himself.
He also played a supporting character in Signs
I misread the question, I thought you meant a director. Kind of confused by the question to be honest
This is different, but in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind Matt Damon and Brad Pitt do cameos as Dating Game contestants who lose to a much less attractive man, which I thought was pretty hilarious.
Not exactly, but kind of. In Fight Club, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter are walking in the street, and behind them is a movie theater with its marque announcing Seven Years In Tibet, a Brad Pitt film, showing.
In Secretariat the real Penny Chenery made an appearance in the stands.
In “Persuit of Happyness” the real guy makes a cameo. He crosses the street.
In “Erin Brockovitch” the real EB makes an appearance as a waitress.
@Dutchess_III Never saw the first two films, but I had heard that about “Erin Brockavitch”. That the real lady had a cameo. Good movie too.
Oh you just gotta watch Secretariat!
I may be wrong about this, but as i tecall there is a scene in The Misfits where you can see a magazine centerfold picture of Marilyn Monroe.
