What makes this, uh, feature keep popping up?

From time to time (like now), this useless and annoying feature seems to get activated: when you click a GA, it thanks you for marking a great answer—and pops you to the top so you lose your place.
I don’t think we need to be thanked for acknowledging someone’s response. Thanking them is thanks enough.
More to the point, having to scroll back down to where we were, especially in a long thread, is just a needless extra step.
Could we (please, Ben) banish this will-o’-the-wisp feature for good?

I’ve had that happen but not for a long time now. I think it is a buggy thing and they (Ben) do something and make it go away.
It’s been well over a year since I last had that happen to me. I’ve given several GA’s today & not one popped to the top.
It was happening to me this morning, prompting the question.
…
It’s not doing it now. But it couldn’t happen at all if the function were out of the code.
Yeah, I know. Just wishing. Better not to open the box, I guess, than to risk breaking something else.
I’ve been here 2 years, 8 months & it has only happened to me once. As soon as somebody posted a Q about the problem. I responded that I was also having the same problem. One of the nods commented that the problem would be fixed shortly & it was fixed before I went to bed!!! As I always respond to newbies complaining about the system, it is what it is & I’m just happy that it’s up & running, so I won’t even suggest any changes.
Thankfully, I’ve not had that problem
I see that from time to time, and it usually happens when the site freezes for a while and resumes working. I have always taken it to mean that my GA has been given while the site freezes.
Abolishing the feature is too much for me. It’s a good notification that I have successfully given a GA, which means the site is still working properly, and I have always thought of it as quirky. So I’m happy to let it stay.
That’s happened to me before. Try clearing your cache and restarting.
It’s doing it again today.
It’s never happened to me. I use an iPhone and an HP laptop.
