Are you ever tempted to gloat, even just a little?

If so, what has tempted you lately?

I’ve been thinking about replying LOL to the various posts over the past four years where people said they were sure Trump would be re-elected with know-it-all certainty… but I figure that should wait until after the final Trump meltdown drama.
I thought of gloating over being a doomsday prepper. With the extra tp and food, but I caved and stopped in January 2020. I am almost through my extra supplies to and was happy to have extra thought the Covid
Not recently but, in the past, I have been lucky enough to get a couple gigs that paid really well. I was raised to never discuss money, but there were a few people I wanted to gloat to because of their general attitude toward me.
I didn’t though.
Can I gloat here? :D
Two things I just finished up yesterday.
I just finished making my rosette
And I just gave my doll a brother
Now I only need to find a way to make his two shoulder belts…
The temptation is infernal despite the fact that my perceived superiority has little if anything to do with merit (or fact to hear the wife).
Sometimes tempted when someone was overly mean to me telling me I’m horrible or stupid for suggesting whatever it was I was advising or guessing might be an answer to a question. It’s not always gloating, sometimes it’s more defending myself.
Otherwise, no.
I never ever go there. Gloating is what weak and sad people do.
Nope. I take that back. When I stepped up to a pool or foosball the guys would snicker. No way can that girl play pool!
When I wiped the table with them I confess to a flicker of gloating.
Oh, I’m sure you’re not gloating, @Mimishu1995. That’s when you feel some triumphant satisfaction over besting someone else in some way, a kind of vindictiveness or vengefulness (even if on a small scale), or even just seeing someone fall short after they’ve been acting so superior. @Dutchess_III gave a good example.
Just promoting your own accomplishments is crowing or bragging, but not gloating. And of course you’re welcome to crow here.
Hm, I’m afraid that’s a weakness of mine. Last example: a stranger was mistreating his dog for refusing to come when called. I said that this was actually making it less likely the dog would get close to him in the future. He proudly proclaimed that his dog would have a perfect recall after this lesson. A few minutes later, I watched the exact same scene – guy calling, dog happily sniffing way off in the undergrowth. I definitely did some internal gloating, even though I don’t think that’s healthy.
@longgone: I was telling a friend once about walking my parents’ bassett hound, and how the walk was very slow because the dog kept sniffing the ground. My friend told me “you have to control the dog! Don’t let her do that. Tug the leash and keep walking.” Afterwards, I was thinking about my friend’s comments and how, just because we think it’s inconvenient for us, doesn’t mean that the dog shouldn’t get some enjoyment out of the walk.
Some people have this stupid dominate control thing when it comes to dogs. I mean, they need to be trained, sure, but shouldn’t the dog have SOME say over his own life?
I think gloating makes me look fat.
@jca2 I agree. Why even walk your dog, if not for everyone’s enjoyment? Unfortunately, many dogs get that treatment during the brief time they spend outside. Which actually is one more reason to train your dog to happily come when called, with toys and praise. That way, the leash is only needed near roads.

I keep thinking about this Q as I see post after post of Democrats gloating on social media about Biden becoming president. I find it distasteful running around the internet screaming “we won we won.“
I don’t see how that will build unity, which is what Biden seems to care about and is trying to bring to America after a very divided 4 years. I guess it should be ok to celebrate, but it feels more like rubbing it in your face.
@JLeslie….can you tell the difference between someone joyfully celebrating and someone gloating?
@JLeslie After having it rubbed in my face by Repubs for four years, I have no sympathy for them whatever, and gloat I will. If that makes me a baddy, oh well. A hundred years from now, they’ll never know the difference, as my old pappy used to say.
I’m a light year beyond temptation- gloat floats my boat! ;-D
@Dutchess_III There is some crossover, good point.
Posts about finally we have a good president now and everything will be perfect in the country because Biden is president sounds not only like gloating but naive and idealistic. They sound just as sucked in and idolizing a leader as a Trumper. I find this type of worshipping annoying on both sides.
I’m very glad Biden won, and I feel like he is hitting the ground running, but maybe it’s just my personality, not wanting to jinx anything.
Glad my page doesn’t have idiots like that on it.
Feel the Bern Sanders 2024 I will say no more : )
I wish he wasn’t so old (and cold.)
Old yes, cold? I don’t get it?
…surely you’ve seen the memes of him and his mittens flying around…..
Ok I thought you meant cold as in emotionally. I think the guy is very animated : ) And he’s as good if not better than Trump in getting people enthused. Sure works on me : )
@Dutchess_III
“surely you’ve seen the memes of him and his mittens flying around.”
I’ve seen the meme, but Bernie and his mittens were not flying around. ;-)
I just love them! It’s like America needed something so ridiculous to laugh at in hysterical, giddy relief.
@Brian1946 I just got a trailer for the DVD – no Bernie in sight.
If they can perform a Trumpectomy on Home Alone 2, Mary can share her skies with an implanted Bernie and his magic mittens. ;-D
