Have any of you folks ever discovered that you have been a Fluther member longer than you thought?

Asked by Nomore_lockout (7612points) January 5th, 2021

I got bored last night after my wife went to bed early, and I was reading some old threads. I saw one of mine from 2013. Under a prior user name I had. Didn’t think I’d been here that long. Anyone else have that revelation?

No, I knew I joined in 2007 when I was home with a newborn. That’s how I remember my original “start date.”

Nomore_lockout's avatar

@jca2 I was blown away when I saw myself on that old thread. Under No_MoreYA! Or something similar. No one but me has ever used that handle.

Nomore_lockout's avatar

@jca2 How’d you find time to Fluther with a new baby? Between the bottles and diaper changes? LOL, Kudos!

Yes.

It seems like a lifetime already…

January 3rd, 2017. 3 years for me! :)

SergeantQueen's avatar

Seems like a long time ago, but mainly because of all the shit that has happened. Ugh. 3 years seems like 40…

chyna's avatar

I’ve been here since August 2008. A lifetime.

@SergeantQueen

“3 years for me!”

That was SO last year. ;-)

SergeantQueen's avatar

Wait what has it been 4? No way!!!!!

I know that I initially joined in 2009 though I’m not sure exactly when. I was 17 years old. I’ve been on and off since then with a couple more accounts but it’s amazing how long I’ve been a part of this community.

SergeantQueen's avatar

I joined when I was 17 too!!!

Almost a decade, shocking for a committment-phobe.

I came here when I still had a prostate. It’s a date I can’t forget.

@Nomore_lockout: What I found out with a newborn was that they do nothing but eat and sleep. So she’d wake up, eat and then go back to sleep. Maybe I was lucky, I don’t know. People told me “you’ll never sleep again” and crap like that but fortunately, I found it to not be true. Gradually, of course, the periods of her being awake got longer and longer, but the first few months were cake.

@jca2 So you still had time to Fluther…cool! Or you just had an unusually good baby…

I recently learned that I’d first joined Fluther during early-2010. I was surprised to learn that 11 years had gone by.

Countless people have come and gone from here. Some of them, I miss and wish they’d return. A few others, not so much….

jca2's avatar

@Love_my_doggie: When I look at old threads, it’s like a walk down Memory Lane with dead jellies, jellies who have left, some inexplicably, some with reason. I’m thankful for FB that a lot of us are still in touch on there. For ones that are not on FB, it’s often a mystery as to what happened with them.

ragingloli's avatar

I just joined last thursday, so no.

Love_my_doggie's avatar

@ragingloli Welcome to Fluther! I have no doubt that you’ll always be a stable source of predictable reason, with seldom a surprise.

cookieman's avatar

Not surprised, but it has been almost 13-years (May 2008), so I do think, “Whoa! Dude. That is a long time to be a Jelly.”

Caravanfan's avatar

Hey @ragingloli When did wis die? That’s when I joined. (I think you did too)

Dutchess_III's avatar

Check this out.. It says Wis was up as late as 2012.
Also I didn’t know Will Koffell was one of the founders….

Dutchess_III's avatar

LOL!
“Wis.dm is a social network based around simple yes/no questions. It’s not about writing long answers to life’s most elusive questions. Wis.dm’s popularity comes from quick responses that lack any explanation. The absence of explanation and reasoning seems to be what makes Wis.dm highly addictive. Users get riled up overcontroversial answers and then write madly in the comments.
Those were the days my friends!

Nomore_lockout's avatar

Hmmm…sounds somehow vaguely familiar. I’ll name no Q&A site names however.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Like Yahoo Answer?

Nomore_lockout's avatar

You said it, not me : )

Nomore_lockout's avatar

Didn’t think we could mention other sites here?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Of course we can. We talk about Facebook and Twitter all the time.

Caravanfan's avatar

So Dutch, Rags and I probably came here about 2012ish.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Surely not. Remember the great Exodus? We all came at once. The Frizzer question was one of the first questions I answered. When was Casey Anthony?

chyna's avatar

2008 I think.

KNOWITALL's avatar

You all were here when I came in 2012 I believe. Dutchess was for sure. :D

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yes. It was 2008. But I think the frizzer Q was asked in 2009. I’ll see if I can find it.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Found it Damn it Janets asked it in 2008. So that’s when I came here. Here I am in my first incarnation.

Brian1946's avatar

RagingLollipop and @Caravanfan (as Rarebear) were already here when I arrived in December, 2009.

If @Caravanfan and Rags arrived here around the same time, that would be approximately April, 2009.

cheebdragon's avatar

My son was almost 2 years old when I joined Fluther and by the end of 2021 he will be 16 years old.
