Stacey Abrams is an American hero.

@Tropical_Willie …impeachment will start shortly.

That is unless they pull the 25th Amendment!

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Easier to pop him with impeachment, 25th might require proof he’s wacky (ya I know) he won’t let them put a Shrink within two states!

AWESOME SAUCE!!

It’s almost enough to give you hope.

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

25th requires no proof. If the VP and majority of the cabinet decree the president can’t do the job, the VP takes over.

stanleybmanly's avatar

But do the job in 14 days?

Strauss's avatar

According to various reports, yhe idea has already been brought up by Democratic lawmakers, cabinet members, and business leaders.

The events of today, should convince the nation and the world, that Trump is off his rocker.

What are you expecting Biden to accomplish other than reversing some of Trump’s most asinine executive orders?

Obama had a supermajority and delivered us Romneycare in Democrat wrapping paper, kept our troops deployed in the Middle East, continued the post Reagan trend of trickledown economic policy, abandoning unions, globalization and outsourcing, mass deportations and incarceration. Biden has already promised that “nothing will fundamentally change.” Why don’t you believe him?

Remember that the nightmare that is Trump is a symptom ultimately caused by Democrats abandoning populism to pursue “woke elitism” with insincere and vapid populist rhetoric. This created a vacuum for right-wing faux-populism to message to a desperate-and-declining middle and lower class that has been completely ignored for 40+ years.

Get ready for austerity and balanced budgets.

Let me tell you what I expect. It’s simple. Biden will loosen the Federal purse strings to the point of outright profligacy. He will do it because today was the sort of demonstration which terrifies our political corporate toadies regardless of the wishes of their masters. THIS time, the usual efforts to channel the money to the fat cats might just destroy those who dare make it obvious. And believe me, memories of Mitch will hover over the Senate chamber like that other sword of Damocles—Gingrich haunts the House.

@stanleybmanly Remember “Occupy Wall Street?”

It’s over and I like to think my vote made a difference.

The county where I live used to be solid red – now it’s solid blue. Hooray!

stanleybmanly's avatar

@gorillapaws the mods don’t care for my answer. I’m accused of flame baiting. My answer to your question: yes I remember “Occupy Wall Street”. I remember that THEY neglected to riot and tear shit up. And the thieves responsible for the collapse dragged their bags of billions of Obama bailout dollars right past the thousands of protesters and made fun of them while doing it. THAT is worth remembering.

mazingerz88's avatar

@elbanditoroso In Georgia it’s mostly Abrams. A friend of mine and I can only assume and have fun believing our small donations ( mine small, his big ) and phone calls helped. Celebration this weekend
I shall partake. Yey.

@stanleybmanly Articulate flame-baiting?

stanleybmanly's avatar

You have to ask the mods. The accusation sits there above.

gorillapaws's avatar

@stanleybmanly I certainly don’t think your comment was flame bait. Your point is that yesterday’s situation will be enough to motivate a pro-austerity Biden administration/DNC to change course towards populist economic policy in a way that Occupy Wall Street didn’t is the looming threat of violence from the right wing. Right?

I don’t share your optimism. But I hope I’m wrong. Just look at who Biden picked for his cabinet. It’s packed with neoliberals. He even put the cancer-alley guy to be the liaison to environmental issues.

I don’t believe the maga riots are what will divert both Biden and the Republicans from the usual business of catering to corporate interests and those of the ruling class. Covid and its consequences is the big deal which will force attention on the working man and woman (for a change). And it will do so as a matter of political expediency.

stanleybmanly's avatar

The feature crucial to covid as a motivating factor is that the blame for it cannot be pinned on immigrants, liberals, BLM, the usual suspects the thieves point to as they escape with the loot.

Not every president can be a JFK or an Obama.
I look forward to yhe cessation of rambling, disjointed, blathering rants. I don’t think Biden will embarass the hell out of our country.

@Dutchess_III: “Not every president can be a JFK or an Obama.”
