Did congress start getting vaccinated already?

Asked by JLeslie (65790points) January 12th, 2021 from iPhone

I remember there was an argument about whether politicians should get vaccinated before us regular folk, but I don’t know what was the result. I heard some congressman who were present during the attacks have now tested positive.

Is this act of aggression support for why our representatives should be vaccinated in the first group?

I just saw a report about fining congressman who won’t wear masks.

Yes, the are already getting vaccinated. Interesting article with quotes from a few members of Congress on their feelings.

@KNOWITALL I wonder if any of the congressmen positive had their first shot. I also was wondering if it was one of the congressmen who refused to wear a mask when they were taken to another location during the rioting in the Capitol. I was going to look up the names and try to figure it out.

I actually agree with Rand Paul that anyone who has had covid should be at the back of the line, but maybe just the line of the congressmen, because it’s so few anyway.

I think the argument can go either way whether congress is more important than the average person and should be vaccinated before other essential workers. I think they would be classified as essential, don’t you? Not before healthcare, but maybe the same as other workers who interact with the public or has to do their work in groups.

Much of congress is over 65 or has a health condition anyway, and they would qualify early for the vaccine anyway.

The continuity of government is important, so I would say yes that they are ‘more important’ in that aspect than regular citizens. And yes, the age would definately qualify most of them.

On the other hand, it could be argued that the risks associated with the vaccine (so far), may preclude some waiting to ensure continuity of government. Since they’re doing it in ‘waves’ per the article, I think we’ll be okay.

Too late now. Due to the events of last week congress ended up in a not socially distanced safe room and wit at least one COVID positive person are already coming down with it.

@Lightlyseared Of the three who tested positive, were any of them the ones who refused to wear a mask?

@Tropical_Willie In other words no evidence the maskless congressmen were positive. We don’t know. Not that I excuse their behavior.

Not yet but Rep’a pulled masks as soon as the left the House chamber. If they test positive today there is no way show they were positive and mask less, jsut they were Republicans!

SMDH poor behavior on their because they are Republican.
