How would you describe Go-Go music?

Asked by gondwanalon (23232points) January 31st, 2021

I love music and just discovered Go-Go. I’m an old guy, usually lost in my own world and way behind all the popular trends.

To me Go-Go seems to be a mix of the old Disco music and Rap.

I like Go-Go (but never cared to listen to rap). I think that Go-Go music gives Rap a good matrix in which to have meaning. Like music gives meaning to the words of a song. Rap by its self seems empty to me. Like the words of a song without the music. Go-Go brings Rap to life.

What do you think?

Unlistenable. I didn’t like it 30 years ago and that hasn’t changed.

Go-Go is from Washington, DC, originating in the late-60s and early 70s. Its roots are funk, gospel, and rock, with some disco and rap tossed-in as mainstream music evolved.

There’s never been much cultural crossover for Go-Go, because it’s always been performed in African American nightclubs. I do know that the genre’s fans are deeply loyal, over the decades and spanning changes.
