What's a good identity protection service?

Asked by Brian1946 (32537points) February 1st, 2021

I’ve been using Life Lock, but they’ve become flaky.

If you aren’t using an identity protection service, what do you do to protect yourself from identity theft?

If my identity is stolen, I’ll be on a fast track to poverty.

@Brian1946 – Okay, but before we meet up in the poorhouse here : https://www.identityguard.com/

Don’t say I never share nice things ;)

There aren’t any good ones. Just ‘less worse’ ones.

The problem is that the bad guys are always a step or two ahead of the protective services. Identity protection is a reactive, not a proactive technology.

One thing I notice is that people around me tend to overshare. They are very careless about what they put on the Internet, especially FB. They share things that I don’t see any point in sharing, such as the exact location of the restaurant they just have dinner in or their personal information during an online game session. Knowing your audience is a good way to protect your identity. I only share personal things to places where I’m the most comfortable with, such as this site.

Also make it a habit to at least use incognito mode when browsing the Internet. I have seen quite a few criminals getting busted just because the police find questionable searches in their browser’s history, and it always cracks me up :D

Yeah, I don’t have any identity protection service except for my free VPN software, so habits are important to me.
