@ragingloli: “What other groups should be categorised as terrorists?”

ICE? The US?

All of the white supremacists groups should be. I suspect the FBI has characterized them as domestic terrorists from what I’ve read; I’m just not sure they’re publicizing it.

I think they should consider listing Trump as a terrorist.

Here’s an interesting discussion of the issue from the position of civil rights groups:

As with most things there are nuances.

And here’s a link to a page from the Southern Poverty Law Center, an organization I support, that monitors hate groups:

I think if they helped organize and promote storming the Capitol they should be listed as terrorists.

As far as your average hate group, I’m very torn. Terrorist is supposed to be someone acting against the government or against the citizenry that uses coercion or violence to interrupt or inhibit political goals of the country. Something like that. Terrorism is a political act not just people who don’t like other people, not just people exercising their right to free speech. I do think hate and hate speech does sometimes rise to the level of terrorism though.

I worry about the slippery slope of quelling free speech so much that it leads to government having the power to quiet anyone in disagreement with the government, whoever the government might be at the time. Remember how Trump wanted to shut up some news organizations? What if the laws were working for him to do such a thing.

I do think we can identify hate and violence meant to destroy our democratic process though. Or, when hate is systematically trying to take away or destroy an American citizen or group their equal rights or especially their right to be safe and to live.

If a group targets a black church, synagogue, or mosque, to me they are terrorists too, because that is an assault on the country, not just the groups named.

So, I tend to be on the side of listing the KKK, Proud Boys, and other NeoNazi groups as terrorist organizations.

I’m happy to know there are still some intelligent people on the North American continent.

What does it mean? If it’s just a label, it is meaningless.

On the other hand, if being labelled a terrorist means that the Proud boys can be arrested and jailed on sight, and the RCMP really does it, then it might be important.

Details matter.

Those Canadians are pretty smart! But we here in the US are too soft on people. We’d just as soon slap their wrists, wag our fingers at them and say “what bad boys they’ve been.”

@kritiper
Like that terrorist Kyle Rittenhouse. Was released on bail, and now they can not find him.

It shouldn’t be criminal just to be despicable. Can you imagine the law enforcement situation in this country if ever ignorance or bad taste are declared criminal?

Now legal charges can be imposed on anyone purchasing Guns ( don’t know restriction as to type as yet).
