Drinkers of instant coffee: have you tried blending regular with decaf?

Asked by Jeruba (56064points) February 4th, 2021

If you have, is there a noticeable taste difference? Anything else (besides reduced caffeine effects)?

I’m not a “real coffee” drinker because I don’t really like coffee. I just use it. But lately I’m being bothered by the buzz. I’d like to try a blend. A preview would be nice, though.

Thank you.

Please note, this is not a forum on the merits of brewed vs. instant vs. Starbucks. That’s a fine enough question, but it isn’t this one.

Of course you can mix it, just like my mom mixes Diet Coke and regular Coke and my husband mixes Diet caffeine free Coke and Diet regular.

If you just use it for caffeine and habit then I’d say you will notice a slight flavor difference that you will adjust to quickly. If you cut your caffeine in half you might feel under the weather or slight headache for a couple of days.

This is not for instant coffee but some of the info might apply.
I used to buy a can of regular and a can of decaf and mix them about 50–50 in a refillable Keurig pod.
One day I spent more than 15 seconds selecting coffee and noticed the half-caf is less expensive per pound than either the regular or the decaf! I was wasting my time and money by mixing it myself. That was a surprise.
