Since it clearly does not work, how would you reform the impeachment process?
It clearly is impotent beyond measure. The Democrats could have Perry Mason detailing and proving Trump’s guilt beyond even a sliver of a doubt, while he himself is advocated for by a literal chimp, and Republicans would still vote to aquit him.
And I doubt it would be much different if the sides were reversed.
So, how would you try to fix it?
Or do you think it is beyond saving, and abolish it instead?

Maybe have 50 random citizens on the jury in addition to the politicians.
1. Reduce the “conviction” number to three-fifths of the Senate, not ⅔rds.
2. Allow for criminal prosecution to also occur.
The impeachment process requires a two thirds majority, according to the constitution, and I’m fine with that. It’s the thinking process of Republican senators that needs reforming. If they are OK with sending a mob in to Senate to overturn an election is there anything they would object to?
The first thing that needs to be done is to limit the power of the president. The president should not be able to issue executive orders to pull out of international organizations or to transfer money in order to pay for border walls. Then the filibuster needs to be eliminated, or at least weakened, so Congress can laws. Maybe they can reduce the number of votes required to stop a filibuster from 60 to 55. There also need to be laws against gerrymandering.
With presidential power reduced and with a more representative and more effective Congress, there should be fewer cases that come up regarding impeachment.
Bring back the guillotine.
Those jack weeds want to set up a gallows on MY Capitol grounds, I’ll go them one better. Off with their heads. Not like they’ll miss it anyway.
