Is the Post Office still experiencing delays with mail delivery?

Asked by jca2 (16891points) February 11th, 2021

I have to put some Valentine cards in the mail for friends and family. Today, Thursday is the day I’m planning to mail them, hopefully to arrive by Saturday.

I would have mailed them earlier but I’m in the office sporadically and I left them at work accidentally. This is what brings me to two days before the holiday.

Is it likely they’d arrive within two days?

I don’t know if they will admit it, but in my opinion, yes.

Some days I get only first class mail (bills, letters), and some days only 2nd class (magazines, newspapers, ads, etc.) but never evenly distributed across all days like they used to be.

In fact, on Friday or Saturday I will usually get a big delivery of all the magazines that have stacked up.

They do seem to keep up on packages, in my experience.

I’m sorry, but I wouldn’t bet on arrival by Saturday, especially if the cards have far to go. Even in normal* times, I’d say it’s a risk, but now it’s more so.

However, your friends and family know you love them, and you’ll still love them on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday.

Can you mail them at a post office, at least? Pickup time at a streetcorner mailbox might have already passed for today.

*Or shall I just say “former.”

Recent mailing I’ve had are taking 5 to 7 days where same time last year it was 3 days. December was terrible with 21 to 25 day for deliveries. Mailed insurance payment on Dec 22nd for a Jan 6th due date, notified on Jan 12th in writing our insurance would lapse do to lack of payment. Checked bank on line and check was deposited that day.

Received Christmas card on January 8th mailed Dec 10th.

I got charged a late fee for a department store bill check that I mailed two weeks before the due date. That was in December. I’m waiting now for a status letter from Social Security that the web site was sent on February 5.

I would say they’re still running slow and i am hoping that DeJoy and the Board of Directors are removed and replaced.

I doubt your cards will get there on Saturday.

Seems OK to me.

@Dutchess_III You’re lucky ! We have stuff taking a week to get there. before it was 3 days. Both letters and packages. Better now than in December, but not where it was in early 2020.

You know, it’s like 2020 was some sort of bad dream that never really happened.

My wife had a package sent on March 26th, arrived at regional distribution center in our state on 27th. It went off the grid until . . . . April 1st it was in Lithuania !

WTF ?

I wonder if anyone else had a 12,000 mile detour put on their package?

I’m surprised it got to Lithuania in 5 days. I would have expected weeks.

It is now in regional distribution center, waiting for them to send it out of state to another center !
