The owner assembles the team, and the coach drives them in game play.
The owner must fire the coach, or admit it is his own fault.

It is cheaper to fire one coach (one salary) than fire the whole team. Besides, you need the team to play.

SOMEONE must be blamed.

Most pro level players, like 90%, are pretty much interchangeable as far as skill sets. They can play for any team and play consistently over the years.

To win titles and championships, the team needs one or two star players, who play better than almost everyone, and a coach who can direct the team to play well as a team and is able to devise winning strategies.

Consider Jim Harbaugh. The 49ers had missed the playoffs for eight seasons in a row; Harbaugh comes in and they go to the NFC championship his first three years. That’s teh difference a coach can make.
