Can apples be sliced then stored in a freezer?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) February 11th, 2021 from iPhone

In keeping with the spirit of the country, why shouldn’t I hoard more of our apples as opposed to giving them away?

I’ve always heard you dehydrate apples. Bananas and strawberries, too. You can can like Mama Walton!

How do you go about dehydrating apples? And what do you do to revive a dried up apple slice?

@stanley A lovely little dehydrator in you kitchen or pantry!
Healthy dried fruit, candied fruit, alcohol infused fruit, pies, anything you want.
I believe you just soak in water or brandy, etc..overnight before using.
You can also make your own thin-sliced gourmet beef jerky, dried squid, etc…
It’s really fun, I’ve had the same one since my early 20’s.

I would hire YOU as my personal chef!

@stanleybmanly you and @reddeerguy both talk so lovingly of food, it would be fun haha! I do love an appreciative crowd.
My hillbilly gyoza dumplings are really good, too. I love steamed dumplings.

Yes, it works best if you put the slices in ice water as you cut them, then refrigerate overnight. Drain the water, place slices in a freezer bag, and into the freezer.

I don’t know how many apples you have, but apples last a long time in the fridge. 6–8 weeks. Maybe you have an apple tree?

You might consider making some apple sauce. You can freeze that also.

I recently made apple cake. I assume it freezes well.

@YARNLADY It doesn’t work with whole apples?

@JLeslie Whole apples are too thick to freeze properly. They will thaw out mushy. It does work with wedges also.
