What percentage of our population would you predict will refuse to be vaccinated?
I have been surprised at the number of people who have told me they will refuse inoculation. Yesterday, while receiving my second shot, I asked the woman administering it whether she had received her second dose and was astonished when she told me that for reasons she wished not to discuss, she had chosen not to be vaccinated.

23% (the percentage that think Republican senators voted to acquit Trump for non-political reasons)
I thank it would be 70.9 percent of America.
There are some medical and scientifically minded personnel who are reticent. (Know some, and this has been discussed). These people are not anti-vaxxers, and they do trust the process by which the vaccines were developed. Their problem is, quite simply, that because the process happened so quickly, there are no long-term data available for analysis.
This is not an unreasonable or unscientific concern, but because of the circumstances, not one we can really address with proper caution.
US population? Not including children who are not now eligible? I think 30% of eligible people will refuse.
Since she didn’t say why, she may have medical reasons. I just received my second shot yesterday but my neighbor, because of severe allergies, was advised to wait until further testing had been done around that issue. Let’s face it, life saving it may be, but the vaccine still has many unanswered questions.
@Zaku It might interest you that I have Trump voters all around me getting vaccinated, but I agree Republicans are less likely to get the vaccine than Democrats.
Meanwhile in MA, today they expanded the eligibility to 65–74 or two or more comorbities (very limited list). Great news! Except, the website that we’re supposed to use crashed immediately and is still down. Also, doctors are freaking out because hospitals’ supplies have reportedly been redirected to mass vaccination sites. It’s f*cking chaos here.
@hello321 So, are you eligible now? I don’t remember how old you are.
Was the general public getting vaccinated at hospitals?
If it’s any comfort, the mass sites wound up being really good here in my opinion. Will it be first come first serve? Initially, they were horrible because people lined up for hours, but that’s because so many feel this need to go on the first day. After a month (I know that feels like a long time) it is really good. It would be better if they tightened up eligibility at the mass sites initially to certain days for certain age groups or something to reduce lines.
A lot of over 65 year olds have a lot of trouble making appointments online. You have to be fast on the computer and patient. It’s hard for 40 year olds for that matter, a lot of adult children are booking appointments for their parents and it takes hours and days of patients. I’m the only one of my closest friends who has not had to sit on a computer to help my parents or Inlaws.
Even the mass sites that require appointments, what’s good is there are hundreds of appointments every day for that site instead trying to find an appointment in a city near you at a place that just does 50 appointments a day.
^ Thanks. No, I’m only 49 years old. My mother is now eligible, which is great. My sister, however, has multiple health issues and the plan for months has been that her immunologist was going to administer the vaccine in her office. Additionally, because she doesn’t have two of the approved comorbidities, it might be tough to get. Anyway, hope they can fix this website soon. I keep hearing about people getting vaccinated, and it seems like they’re talking about a whole other universe.
@hello321 I completely understanding that feeling! It’s like half the people I interact with are celebrating getting vaccinated and the other half have been trying, STRUGGLING for an appointment, for weeks and weeks and nothing.
I predict your sister will have a tough time getting it any time soon. I hope I’m wrong. Booking appointments here, most of the websites don’t have a way to book if you are underage. It’s one of the frustrations. The very high risk underage people are getting vaccinated at healthcare facilities that they are regularly treated at. Not private doctors, but larger medical facilities like hospitals and oncology facilities that sort of thing. That only started happening fairly recently.
I’m not getting the vaccine right now although I might get it sometime in the future. I’m not that worried about getting the vaccine.
@hello321 If your state and county have a text messaging system for vaccine information sign up for it. Also, if you are on Twitter follow the health department for your county or whatever is available.
