Is it wrong to call your cat Eggwheena?

My cat is really stuck-up. I have started calling her Eggwheena, in order to undermine her confidence a little. Me and my boyfriend have a good laugh at her, but then feel bad. Can a cat ever suffer from having an undignified name?

She is probably laughing at you two for misuse of pronoun. (My bf and I)
it is only wrong if SHE thinks it is wrong…..;)
The LAST thing I would do is mess around with what I say or do to a cat. They have their own ways of getting back at you. Beware. Show her respect and you will get it in return.
Nah, I like the name….and she deserves it that stuck up brat!
My animals have had strange names. Meanness to cat will come back to haunt you though. She does not deserve your scorn.
Cats are like people—you can’t change them. You can only accept them for who they are.
I don’t know if I’d give a cat a joke name. My brother-in-law named his two cats weirdo and braindead and they pretty much live up to their names.
Cats seeking revenge for improper treatment also tend to leave “presents” behind. In other words, they get the last laugh.
First, what the hell is Eggwheena?
Second, your cat isn’t smart to know that you call a insulting name.
I agree with simone54 here. Your cat does not understand english. Call her whatever you want. She probably doesn’t come when you call her anyway.
Granted, they may not understand English, but anyone owned by a cat knows full well that they understand attitude, tone, and intent, and more importantly, they know how to deal with it.
Lurve for you for stating it correctly -
anyone owned by a cat!
Milo comes when I call him, every evening at dusk. I don’t know where he’s been or what he’s been up to. I warble and yodel a bit, and there he is. Of coure, he has a regal name.
All I have to do is pull out a saucer from the cabinet, put it down on the tile counter and 6 seconds later, HRH (aka rocketkitty) is at my feet, making graceful figure-eights though my legs.
I think Eggwheena is a cute name. But I would call her that in a loving way, I would never make fun of a cat. Even my sumo kitty, when I call her that, I say it affectionately and scritch under her chin.
And think of the size of the font necessary to get that name on the tag. You’d have to add a little magnifying glass to dangle from the collar.
Well, I do call her ‘Eggwheena’ lovingly. As T.S. Eliot said, ‘the naming of cats is a difficult matter’. They have many names for their many moods. But yes, it’s true that Eggwheena is far too long a name on a tag.
My animal rescue organization frowns upon using non-human-like names for cats because it is a sign of disrespect and condescension.
Sorry Girlofscience I have to give an “oh, please” to that comment. My animals will never have people names, because I think that’s weird. The cat doesn’t know shit-head from Bob. If you call your cat shit-head from day one, it will think that’s its name and it will respond. How can you disrespect an animal? You can be cruel to an animal, but disrespect, hmm…
though i do believe in animal rights, as long as you treat your cat respectfully and treat it as an equal, it doesn’t really matter what you name it. if that’s the name you enjoy and can live with for a good while, go for it.
and not to mention, i doubt little eggwheena will realize how painfully embarrassing her name is, seeing as she probably isn’t familiar with human vocabulary. and there are WAY worse things you could name her.
I treated my cat as an equal. It starved to death trying to get a job.
haha nice answer bodyhead.
