Is anyone else still waiting for their $1,400 Stimulus (or whatever it is called) check?

Asked by Yellowdog (12216points) March 19th, 2021

I received a letter back in the middle of February that the money would be deposited in a couple of weeks. And two weeks ago, it was supposed to be in this week. Friday is almost gone.

As of Tuesday, I knew several people who had not received theirs, but one who had last Saturday. Howbeit, I am beginning to think it’s either not coming, or some snafu has delayed it for a season or two.

The last check I got, I received so quickly (as did the entire nation) that I didn’t even yet know I was supposed to get it.

Its kind of scary to be down to $55.00 with two weeks left until you get paid again. A dental bill put me in dire straights—but I was really counting on that money.

You do realize that the bill authorizing those checks was signed into law only eight days ago, right? There were no guarantees before that. Checks and deposits are supposed to come in several waves. Not everyone will be in the first one.

You can check your status here.

I’m sorry about your financial straits. I’ve been there and know what it’s like. I do hope you get some relief soon.

AlaskaTundrea's avatar

Jeruba is right. They’ve just started going out. I got mine via direct deposit two days ago.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Almost everyone here got them Monday, myself included. I saw the status search link somewhere if you want me to try send it to you, let me know. I feel like a dragon with my horde of treasure…haha!

Mine hasn’t but I don’t think I qualify.

JLeslie's avatar

I received my second check several weeks ago. This third one I don’t think I will get any money, I have to check the cutoffs and what we earned.

kritiper's avatar

I know of two other people besides myself who have not yet received their checks.

JLoon's avatar

Yes. Still waiting.

And my Nigerian bank account is overdrawn too.

Strauss's avatar

We got ours directly deposited on Wednesday.

anniereborn's avatar

Several people in my family, including me are on SS Disability. None of us have gotten our checks yet. We all got the first two though. So there is no reason to suspect we won’t get this one.

P.S. I am in the exact same situation as you @Yellowdog even down to the dental thing.

filmfann's avatar

My daughter, who doesn’t have direct deposit hasn’t gotten hers yet.

The IRS has a website where you can “Find out when and how we sent your 2021 Economic Impact Payment.” It’s called the Get My Payment tool.

As for the “Get my payment Tool” that didn’t work for me the first time nor this time. Not for my husband either. No idea why. So if it doesn’t tell you anything, don’t get discouraged, I still got my other two.

stanleybmanly's avatar

I’m puzzled by the entire process. On all 3 occasions, money appeared in the wife’s account within a day of any announcement that money is in the pipeline. The first round I was surprised several weeks after the wife’s infusion to receive a check in the mail. I had assumed that I wasn’t qualified. The next round found the wife bubbling again with glee promptly after news that cash was on its way. And again, zip for me. Nearly a month later, I received a Visa debit card in the mail. Last Monday, when she shouted “Jackpot” while gaping at the monitor, I wondered what fate might work this time. I’m still wondering, but more curious than anxious. I for one am grateful that for these 3 episodes our government has seen fit for a change to take measures which will actually make a substantial and IMMEDIATE difference for so many struggling people. It’s about fkn time!

To anyone still reading this who is on SSI or SSDI:

Thanks for all your responses—all have been helpful.

No one on SSI or SSDI have received payment but those with a Direct Express Card (people on SSI or SSDI but have no bank account) are getting preferential treatment. Once they have gotten theirs, those of us with bank accounts will be scheduled to get ours by direct deposit.

chyna's avatar

My brother is on SSDI and received his last Wednesday via direct deposit. I hope yours comes soon. Let us know, please.

Yellowdog's avatar

Thanks for the info—it gives me hope and I can probably do okay until the middle of next week. I DO need the money as soon as I can get it, but it serves to remind me that relying on government is really not a solution. I wouldn’t even be getting by on it without help from a few relatives, whom I am thankful to be able to fall back on. Not everyone is so lucky.

jca2's avatar

I find it amusing when Republicans and Conservatives are enthusiastic about a socialistic endeavor.

JLeslie's avatar

@jca2 If only they realized it was socialistic. Most of them have some sort of brain block about it.

Many of them said it’s getting their own tax money back that America should have never taken from them in the first place. I saw that online during the first stimulus. That’s messaging from the libertarians that bleeds over to the Republicans. Now that Biden is giving out the money many of them have decided it’s the wrong thing to do, while some are still very happy to keep getting their government checks.

Yellowdog's avatar

I would flag the catty response as a personal attack in a General thread, but perhaps responding would be better. The second response (above) is not really any better.

The stimulus money is only 9% going to Covid relief—91 percent of every dollar is going to causes beneficial to Democrats, many of which conservatives and Republicans do not agree with. But we all pay taxes on it.

I receive Social Security disability because I was shot in a robbery that has disabled me for life. Even if I am able / forced to work again, it will never be without pain and difficulty. The guy who shot me drove a BMW and had free housing and was a member of Vice Lords. In spite of his felony record, at age 20 he had free government housing,

Before I was shot, I worked two jobs and took care of a disabled person. After I was shot, I lost my independence, moved back in with my parents, and waited four years to get on disability. Now that I can possibly work again, jobs have disappeared due to covid and no one will hire someone my age.

I only get a pittance of what I should be getting (what I paid in) to Social Security since I own land, which I pay taxes for. The land has been in my family for over 140 years and hard to part with, especially when its all you have,

The previous two relief bills also went overwhelmingly to the private interests of congress, not to individuals, and zip for small businesses.

JLeslie's avatar

I completely support disability. I would hope most republicans do to, I really have never thought about it. I would guess people in both groups worry about fraud, but when it’s legitimate I think most people are in favor of helping those who are disabled.

My response was solely about the stimulus check.

I know you have wanted to work again. The system makes it difficult.

Yellowdog's avatar

Thanks @JLeslie —for those remarks, and for being fair and neutral amid the Conservative / Liberal conflict that’s forever on Q&A and Social websites.

JLoon's avatar

@Yellowdog , and All – I think the personal story in your answer above is good reminder that behind the cut and paste political arguments that follow the usual scripts here and everywhere else, there are real people. Human beings with experiences that often have nothing to do with whatever right/left/liberal/conservative labels they may end up wearing.

Maybe someday we can disagree without trashing the basic respect we’re all entitled to. But until then I’ll continue to treat politics like the sick game it’s become.

JLeslie's avatar

@JLoon I have retirees all around me who had no change in income from the pandemic receiving stimulus checks. Why should they? Many of these same people thanked Trump for their check and criticize Biden. I understand the first check was under duress and the point was to act quickly, but the Democrats and Trump both worked the first stimulus TOGETHER. People on SSI or SSDI have not had their incomes change at all. Maybe they should be getting more to begin with. That’s another issue.

I actually agreed with Republicans that the Democrats should not stuff this recent bill for a third stimulus full of other things. It’s just mote of the same.

Strauss's avatar

@JLeslie People on SSI or SSDI have not had their incomes change at all.

There was a cost of living adjustment of 1.3% in December.

A mere pittance, if you ask me.

Yellowdog's avatar

And if you get any other benefit, like EBT or medical subsidies, that amount goes down when you get your 1.3 percent. So, you may get $12 dollars more, but you lose maybe 9–12 dollars in other areas.

My current bank account sits at 84 cents ($0,84) and maybe I could find that much again in coins. I have enough food to last me about half a week. Hopefully this will come through by then.

Yet I still fear losing the disability money soon. Like I said, I own property, have a Masters degree, and some would say not very disabled anymore. But I can’t get a job, and even if I could, it would not pay my medical expenses, which are covered under disability.

I would pretty much have to be a self-starter to work again, which also usually takes some initial overhead.

JLeslie's avatar

@Yellowdog As I said, I’m absolutely fine with you receiving money SSDI. The system is imperfect and I wish it was designed better. It’s very difficult to solve the problems with it. I’m also fine with you getting stimulus money. I’m not fine with retirees who earn $100k a year and had no change during covid getting a stimulus check.

Do you get money for groceries? Check into that if you don’t. Also, you might be able to get a free cell phone and also a discount on utilities.

Smashley's avatar

@Yellowdog – man, hang in there! It can be a cruel country, and I’ve heard its not one for old men, either.

A couple additions, if I may. To those who describe the direct payments to citizens as “socialism” or some kind of Democrat wet dream, I’d point out that this is a pretty new and pretty libertarian practice. Its sort a hybrid between social service and free market principles, where we trust people to use the money however they will, without hand wringing about the squandered dollars in pool halls and jive louges.

And while it may be true that only a small portion of the covid bill had direct covid relief in it, it was clearly an omnibus, attempting to do a lot of things at once. You described most of the money going to causes that help the Democrats, but what does that really mean? Lots of money is being spent to shore up all kinds of issues that have direct effects on the lives of all us, which, yes, the Democrats think is popular, but you dont have to be a Democrat to get the benefits. We have multiple pressing domestic crisis, ( btw, the word of the decade is “intersectionality”). and someone is actually trying to address them, using the system as it is, not as we’d prefer it to be. Please don’t us and them this during hard times; we’re all suffering together here.

Strauss's avatar

@Yellowdog This just in! says more payments are on the way! Hope yours is going out soon!

Yellowdog's avatar

Thanks SOOO much—that wasn’t in 20 minutes ago,

Strauss's avatar

No problem! As soon as I saw it I thought of you. Good luck!

Lonelyheart807's avatar

I got mine this last Wednesday by direct deposit, but I know a number of people who got theirs Monday. I think it has something to do with which bank you have too. The tool did work for me when I went on there a week ago. It told me that mine would be deposited by Wednesday and it was. But I don’t know how accurate that always is. When I was waiting for my federal tax refund, one day I got up and checked, and all of a sudden it was in my bank account, but when I went on “where’s my refund”, it said that my filing was still processing. So who knows? I’m not on disability but I have certainly been in your shoes before where I’ve had $20 to $50 left in the bank until the next paycheck. Hang in there!

Yellowdog's avatar

Well, another Wednesday comes and goes. And I still only have 84 cents.

jca2's avatar

@Yellowdog: Are there any food pantries in your area where you can get food?

longgone's avatar

I’m really sorry, @Yellowdog. Do you have access to informed delivery? You could start pre-screening your mail to see if anything’s coming up.

anniereborn's avatar

I am still waiting as well.
Supposedly Congress gave the IRS and SSA till tomorrow to get something figured out, they weren’t happy to find out about the delay

Yellowdog's avatar

Thanks @longgone and @jca2 — I’m okay on food for now. But it won’t last until I get more money,

Thanks @anniereborn for the update—sorry you are going though this as well.

stanleybmanly's avatar

What do you mean by “won’t last”?

Yellowdog's avatar

I have 84 cents in my bank account and a few odd coins here and there, like in the couch or car seats. I have about 3–5 days worth of food, and that amount doesn’t last the eight days until I have money again..

JLeslie's avatar

Do you have a gofundme account or a bank account people can send money to, to help you? The bank account would have less fees probably or no fees.

anniereborn's avatar

According to cbsnews.com yesterday…..

“The Social Security Administration has notified us that at 8:48 this morning, the agency has transmitted the necessary payment files to the IRS that have been blocking the sending of stimulus payments to nearly 30,000,000 Americans,” Representatives Richard Neal, John Larson, Bill Pascrell and Danny Davis said in a statement. “We are gratified that the SSA leadership finally recognized the urgency of the moment and acted swiftly on our ultimatum.”

Now, they added, the “IRS must now take quick action to deliver.”

The IRS didn’t immediately return a request for comment about the length of time it might take for Social Security recipients to receive their checks. But based on previous payment schedules for the stimulus checks, the wait could be as short as a few days to several weeks.”

stanleybmanly's avatar

My bet is that the dog will get a nick-of- time reprieve in the arrival of his money.

JLeslie's avatar

Did the money come? Are you doing ok?

anniereborn's avatar

I have not gotten mine yet.

Yellowdog's avatar

No change.

One source I read said all the Direct Deposits have been done already. That leaves ME out.
I am anticipating a lot of red tape to get this resolved, and I am doubting it ever will be.

anniereborn's avatar

@Yellowdog I haven’t gotten mine, nor has my husband. So that makes at least 3 of us.

JLeslie's avatar

If you are getting a check know that the last two pieces of mail that I sent took TEN DAYS to get where they were going and they were checks to pay bills. It’s ridiculous. The people who have wanted to ruin USPS for years are getting their wish.

Yellowdog's avatar

I sure hope they don’t mail it.

The chances of it getting stolen or intercepted are high—;like tax refunds often are.
They should have just done a direct deposit as they did quickly and automatically the first two times.

chyna's avatar

If you got a direct deposit the first two times, this one should also be direct deposit.

JLeslie's avatar

Supposedly, this stimulus is supposed to be direct deposited if the IRS has your info. My first one was direct deposited, but the second was a check. From what I understand Trump wanted to send checks to have his signature on it, but I don’t know if that is true. Did anyone get a direct deposit on the second stimulus? I’m pretty sure I am not getting the third.

Yellowdog's avatar

The IRS website said that they have already done all the direct deposits for SSI and SSDI recipients, based on the information they have obtained from Social Security.

The IRS is blaming Social Security, claiming to those who have not received the 1,400 that it is because the Social Security department has not provided the information.

As for Trump and his signature on the check, you get a stub or something anyway that had his signature on it.

Thanks for all your help.

stanleybmanly's avatar

If you were in on the other 2 payments, then you surely should not be left out this time.

anniereborn's avatar

@stanleybmanly Personally I feel assured I will get mine. The question is, how long from now. Us people trying to get by on SSDI for years and years can really use this money boost.

chyna's avatar

Did you get your stimulus yet @Yellowdog? Today is April 11.

stanleybmanly's avatar

I received another debit card last Tuesday. And again it was several weeks after the wife found money directly deposited in her checking account.
