Has anyone here used "A Place for Mom"?

Asked by Jeruba (56061points) March 22nd, 2021

A Place for Mom is a for-profit senior care referral service. They help people find senior housing and care resources across a spectrum of options.

Have you ever used them? or considered using them and then gone elsewhere? What was your experience?

We have consulted them, but the information they provided regarding rentals was useless. The list of homes all had waiting lists and were not even taking any more. We continue to get calls from them at least once a month, even though I told them we no longer need their help. All of the care resources are provided in a booklet published quarterly by our local Agency on Aging.

Two friends used A Place for Mom and one wrote me this: “I used them when trying to find very specialized care for my father prior to his death and they were not truly familiar with San Antonio and appeared to simply be using a database of registered facilities.”

The other wrote this, “I used them years ago and I knew more than them!!!! I was disappointed that they weren’t familiar with properties as they weren’t from the area that I was looking in.”

Where I live you can get tours of the various places here just by calling up, and they even usually treat you to lunch at the facility. From what I understand there is a local company here that knows the various option in town, and can narrow things down for someone, but I have no idea if people find them valuable, because I don’t know anyone who has used them.

I have found that every Independent Living Facility provides the services you have mentioned. For my MIL, we visited every on in san Diego and were treated to lunch, and tours.
