Removing a band aid from an eyebrow?

Asked by jrpowell (40562points) September 10th, 2008

I had a nasty bike fall tonight and had a band-aid placed across the hair. I expect pain, but I would like less pain when I remove the damn thing. Can I soak it in something that will dissolve the adhesive? I imagine that this is going to hurt really bad. Please help it hurt less.

Lots of warm soapy water (think: A nice long hot shower….).

(Kid tested, mom approved.)

Good luck.

Clench teeth. Pull off plaster.

Otherwise nail varnish remover (acetone) will quite happily dissolve the glue.

I don’t think I’d mess with acetone near an eye. (OK AC, call me silly again). I’d go with the soaking it in warm water with a compress (washcloth). You could also try a bit of baby oil carefully rubbed around the area. You might find yourself eyebrowless for a while.

If your careful and only use small amounts at a time acetone will be no problem. Acetone evaporates very fast off the skin. Also it will disolve the glue. Baby oil on the other hand will just make a mess and make it harder to grip the plaster when you try to remove it.

If you use acetone…..be very careful to avoid the cut/wound…...if you primary concern is to avoid pain. Ouch.

Take a long hot shower, then take a cottonball with baby oil on it, make sure you don’t have so much baby oil on the cotton ball that it the baby oil runs into you eye (you will probably need 3 or 4 cottonballs by the time you are through). Start at one end of the bandaid (hopefully there is an end that is attached to skin without eyebrow), slowly start to remove the band aid and as you pull the band aid up, rub the baby oil against the skin as you go slowly letting it seep under the next part of the band aid. Sorry, if I am repeating what others have suggested, I started answering this while others were submitting theirs.

so much for my answer, I type to slow and am too long winded

I will totally hump a unibrow if they keep their glasses on.

@marissa good point. Additionally, I do it for myself! I now must excuse myself and attempt to flat iron my hair w/out giving my scalp a second degree burn.
