Have you ever had to testify in court?

As asked.

I thought of this after watching the Derek Chauvin trial (Minnesota vs. Chauvin) this past week.

I’ve testified twice, both times for work. Once was doing Child Protective work, and once was for the labor organization that I work for that had a Department that wanted to leave the organization. I also had a Deposition Before Trial (DBT) for a personal issue which didn’t go to trial, but those don’t occur in court. Those are sworn depositions with attorneys and a stenographer in a conference room. That wasn’t grueling but the questions were more detailed than either of the two court cases.

I’ve done a Deposition Before Trial (DBT) for a motor vehicle accident that I witnessed, defense attorney called and asked how we knew his client had run a red light, We used that intersection 4 days a week and the light sequence said she ran the light. Oh he was a personal friend and had our home number. He went to his client and told she not going to win in court. End of story.

Not in a criminal trial. Closest to that was being questioned for jury duty in an attempted murder trial.

I have had to do depositions as a witness in civil suits at work. And I was deposed and later questioned in court in my divorce trial.

I was deposed as the defendant in a lawsuit after a motor vehicle accident. There were several trial dates and postponements. It was very traumatic for me and it went on for about 5 years before settling out of court.

No. I have no life.

I can say in the Chauvin case everyone seems to be earnestly trying to tell the truth, which makes it hard to tell the prosecution from the defense. The whole trial smells like prosecution. As it should. Chauvin is guilty as hell.

@Dutchess_III: You can see where the Defense is going. They’re going to say that the crowd was unruly and dangerous and distracting, which prevented the officers from doing their jobs and rendering aid to the victim/suspect. Also they’re going to talk about his drug use and try to say it was an overdose/heart attack. I don’t know how defense attorneys can live with themselves. I guess they like the big paycheck and will like the glory if Chauvin gets off.
