What is with this idea that girls are naturally attracted to dresses?
This.
The idea that girls prefer dresses is simply absurd, IMO. I hated having to wear dresses to school in elementary school. They are a hindrance on the playground, not to mention boys always trying look up your skirt.

That was just strange, that clown needs to leave those folks alone. They cant help how they were born. Now that’s off my chest, I don’t know what girls would be attracted to. When I was in H.S. a lot of girls wore like bell bottom pants, or whatever you called those, Some wore jeans, some did wear skirts or dresses. I guess it was a matter personal choice, as long as it lined up with dress code. If we even had a dress code. But that was the hippie era, and a lot of kids, male or female, would dress like something the dog dragged in.
I don’t wear them very often, but I do love dresses. When I’m shopping for clothes online or in a store, it’s the first tab/section I visit.
I’m perplexed because the article you linked to didn’t seem to say anything about girls liking dresses. It was a very nuanced article about some boys in the Dominican Republic who present as girls and as they go through puberty, grow a penis. I’m not sure where you concluded that from the main theme of the article. There was only one part where one of the boys said he was never drawn to girls things when he presented as a girl.
Did you link the right article? Like @janbb, I don’t see the connection.
I started reading the article but stopped after a few paragraphs when it didn’t seem to have anything to do with girls liking dresses.
I too find the article insufficient as verification of the question as premised. That in no way subtracts from the validity of the premise. Clearly, the only possible explanation for confining a girl to anything as impractical and frivolous as a dress is the assumption that girls are confined to frivolous roles—ie bait for men.
I’ve always loved long, romantic dresses. They’re comfortable.
Yes. And YOU are an incurable romantic.
I didn’t ever try to look up girl’s dresses.
There was a point when my kids were little that my girls wanted to wear not just any old dress, but “princess” dresses. You know, the lacy ones with frills and glitter and bows, and they wanted to wear them EVERYWHERE. The gawdier the better! I don’t know if that answers your question or not…
Seems awfully cold and breezy to me.
It is easier to use the toilet when wearing a dress or nightgown than when wearing slacks or pajamas. When I was in school girls were not allowed to wear pants. I think being born with a preference seems unlikely. Boys and men today in America don’t wear dresses or skirts, however, throughout history men have worn robes, gowns, and skirts among the many part of the Earth. Again, cultural rather than inherent preferences I would think.
