With the 20/21 flu season nearly eradicated, what currently employed anti-corona measures would you support as mandatory during future flu seasons?

I would not mind if they made mask wearing mandatory for the entire flu season. Along with that, they should keep up the cleaning in all businesses like wiping down grocery carts every time they come in.

I could totally see signs at the entrances to all public buildings stating: “It’s Flu Season – Wear Your Mask”

I totally support public mask wearing and the additional cleanliness measures becoming the norm.

Yearly vaccinations.

Curfew, lockdown, social distancing, mask wearing.

In America:

I’m not sure I would make it an order, but I would like advisories out there at minimum.

Masks in stores November 1st through Easter.

An employee wiping down shopping carts.

Masks on planes, trains, and buses.

Purell in front of elevators.

Public service announcements on TV, radio, and social media, reminding people it’s flu season. Please stay home minimum the first 4 days of illness if you can to rest and to protect others. Move to the guest room if you have one to protect your family.

Churches stop using the handshake if they do the rest of the year.

People returning from international trips should self quarantine for 72 hours to make sure they don’t come down with something. I doubt it would ever happen, so hopefully masks worn in the supermarket will be enough. Cruise ships and flights are literally the biggest drivers for how the flu travels around the world. If we had quarantine for travelers for 72 hours it would be the best remedy if it started in October. Like I said, I don’t see it happening. Plus, people disembark at every port.

Schools changing some procedures when cases are on the rise. Schools often wait until it’s so bad they close for a few days.

If Asia takes measures for their flu season it helps the rest of the world a lot, but every country needs to do their part to not let it grow, especially if a strain is very contagious. Flu typically starts in Asia, moves to Europe and North America, and then dies out in South America. A strain can start anywhere, but that’s the typical pattern.

Maybe we could all just hibernate through the winter? I’d be happy to comply!

Mandatory? People aren’t doing “mandatory” in the middle of an apocalyptic plague, I doubt they would for the regular flu season. I would hope that there would be a greater push for fully government subsidized flu shots, and a few automatic changes in businesses, like having many, prominent hand sanitizer dispensers and stuff.
I will probably wear a mask, but I doubt that that is something that can be mandated.

Mostly, I hope that people will take more responsibility for their own health, now that we have seen that so many don’t give a rat’s ass for others’ health. I’ll carry around my own hand sanitizer to use before opening doors or grabbing a cart or basket,

I hope we have learned stuff.

I like not having had a cold in going on two years and would support extra measures during flu season. I wish it didn’t have to be masks, which are still very weird, but okay.

Veering off slightly, I find myself wondering (with just a touch of cynicism) how many businesses that have started up or grown rapidly as a result of servicing covid needs (e.g., cottage-industry mask making) are going to be looking for rescue with public funds when the need dies down.

I don’t think anyone can deny that the pandemic has been a gold mine for some.

@Jeruba I doubt there will be much public support to help businesses that suffer because the pandemic is ending. I think most people view it as those companies or people took advantage of an opportunity, and should be grateful for the momentary windfall. I see this happen when Hurricanes come through Florida; the aftermath is a boon for some businesses.

We can just distance more during flu season if people are very reluctant about masks, and keep our hands clean for others. I feel like people don’t understand that cleaning our hands before shopping and entering buildings protects ourselves and others. People who want to wear masks can still wear them of course. Most flus are contagious one to two days before the symptoms start.

I think we should put messaging out there that if someone wears a mask it is a signal to other people that the mask wearer wants to be cautious. They might be sick and protecting others, or they might have a weakened immune system. I feel like this message is completely missed by most Americans.

None. The actions taken so far are questionable at best. Making them mandatory is an effort to force people to say they are great.
