If Going to Mars, Can I take along my Badminton set?

Asked by glamajka (4points) April 30th, 2021

I am wondering last night when my friend and me were talking about going to mars for a holiday till the Coronavirus pandemic is over.
So with all the packings checklist done; I am wondering if i shall take along my badminton set there.
Like i have doubts if the “shuttle cock” of badminton will fly in air or fly far in air. See, I am newbie to visiting MARS and have no idea about the gravity.

I’ve been going holidays to Mars for the last twenty years, ever since Ryanair opened an airport there in keeping with their policy of operating outwith major urban areas. Beach badminton is popular among Martian holidaymakers mainly because the lack of atmosphere lets the shuttlecock fly much faster. And after your game you can sip Martian-raspberry punch under the stars while waiting for the tide to come in, which it never does.

You will be too busy breaking your back in Elon Musk’s Spice mines, so I would not bother.

Rough numbers….
The incremental cost to put something into Low Earth Orbit is $10,000 per kg.
Geosynchronous orbit costs $20,000.
To the Moon is $30,000.
For Mars it is estimated to be $50,000.

How much does your badminton set cost?

A shuttlecock would go farther in low gravity and thin atmosphere, but it would also tumble more because of the thin air. But that could be interesting and lead to a different kind of game.

The dirt seems to be a bit grating, be prepared with a dust mask and knee and elbow pads.
