Through the Years, Kenny Rogers
I stayed back my 12th grade,so I don’t know .
It was the 70’s, who can remember back then?
This will totally date me…It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday by Boys to Men.
@tiny, we choose Kenny Rogers and that came out many years before my graduation…..and that was my 8th grade Catholic school graduation. Misread the question but that was the one that stuck in my mind…
@trudacia I thought I had your age all wrong. With Kenny Rogers I would have put you in your early 40s.
@tiny, ahhhhhh!! getting up there but thankfully not close to 40 yet.
No offense to those in their 40s of course..I’m just not close to dealing with that. 30s are tough enough.
We didn’t have a song, that I remember anyway :(
We did have an unofficial ballad though:
Party hardy
Rock and Roll
Drink Bacardi
Smoke a bowl
Life is dead
But we’re alive
‘Cause we’re the
Class of ‘85
Did I mention that my oldest just started high school? Oh God.
@august High school certainly hasn’t changed much!
That’s what I was afraid of.
It certainly has since I graduated. No such thing then as a class song (or sex, drugs or rock and roll. The scary guys carried a pack of unfiltered Camels rolled up in their white T-shirt sleeve.)
Good Riddance by Green Day. I wanted it to be “Two Thousand Years” by Billy Joel. The lyrics are perfect:
_______________________________________________
In the beginning
There was the cold and the night
Prophets and angels gave us the fire and the light
Man was triumphant
Armed with the faith and the will
Even the darkest ages couldn’t kill
Too many kingdoms
Too many flags on the field
So many battles, so many wounds to be healed
Time is relentless
Only true love perseveres
It’s been a long time and now I’m with you
After two thousand years
This is our moment
Here at the crossroads of time
We hope our children carry our dreams down the line
They are the vintage
What kind of life will they live?
Is this a curse or a blessing that we give?
Sometimes I wonder
Why are we so blind to fate?
Without compassion, there can be no end to hate
No end to sorrow
Caused by the same endless fears
Why can’t we learn from all we’ve been through
After two thousand years?
There will be miracles
After the last war is won
Science and poetry rule in the new world to come
Prophets and angels
Gave us the power to see
What an amazing future there will be
And in the evening
After the fire and the light
One thing is certain: Nothing can hold back the night
Time is relentless
And as the past disappears
We’re on the verge of all things new
We are two thousand years

They wouldn’t choose it because the song said “Two Thousand” and we were “2001.” We argued that since there is no “0” class, we WERE the “two thousandth” class. They got there way. MAN, but valedictorians can be awfully stupid sometimes.
We had two, Good Ridance by Green Day and Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson. We all agreed that two was better than one.
We didn’t have an official one, but the song that stuck around for an unreasonably long time was Boys and Girls by Good Charlotte. Great vid, too.
We didn’t have a song, we did not even had a prom, but I remember I burned a cd with songs that were hits back then:
My generation – Limp Bizkit
Last resort – Papa Roach
Alive – POD
One Step closer – Linkin Park
Attitude – AAF
Butterfly – Crazy Town
Turn off the light – Nelly Furtado
How you remind me – Nickelback
Here’s to the night – Eve 6
Drive – Incubus
Be like that – 3 doors down
Hemorrhage – Fuel
And some others that I cannot remember, but whenever I listen to these song, memories of my last year in hs come to my mind
Does every HS. class have a song? Because I sure can’t remember having any.
Edit – oops, just read the other answers, looks like they didn’t have a class song either…
I don’t think my highschool has class songs.. but this thread makes me wish we did!
chyna took the words right out of my mouth!
My prom theme was “I will remember you”, by Sarah McGlauflin. I remember think that for a high school graduating class of 800, the second line, “Will you remember me?” seemed somewhat appropriate.
@robmandu, Sorry. I knew I was spelling it wrong, but I tried 5 or 6 variations and none of them looked right.
