Is free beer a way to entice people to get vaccinated?

Is it anything but a cynical marketing ploy for the beer company?

Its as good as any other way.

I can see that as a distinct possibility.

Whatever it takes to counter the destructive anti-vaccine conservative attack on America.

Why did I get vaccinated early, when I could have gotten a beer, a gun, a lottery ticket, or a scholarship?
Because I didn’t want to get sick or die, or get a friend or family member sick.
The vaccine is reward enough.

I don’t mind a beer…or two…or a pitcher…

Lots of businesses are doing giveaways to the fully vaccinated here, but I don’t see it as a motivating factor, especially at the current state of Covid-in my area. I haven’t even gone to get anything and really could care less. Nice gesture though.

The National Guard said they are staying until 50% of the county is vaccinated, so we’ve got almost 15% to go currently.

@Tropical_Willie I have no idea but perhaps until hospitals make it mandatory for employees. We have a ton of colleges and medical facilities, so healthcare workers not being required to have them, as they do the flu shot, is a big part of the problem.

We are having small vaccinations in multiple locations around the area, including the surrounding areas that will participate. Unfortunately cities like mine are refusing to host them making it more difficult for people in my area to schedule.

@Tropical_Willie We’ll see, but cases increased recently, along with the British variant. 30.78% fully vaxxed currently. 35.47% have had one dose already-in my county.

When I mentioned it on my Facebook, a few people were upset the National Guard was there, as if they were forcing people to take it. I told them they are just helping and preventing conspiracy theory kooks from causing problems.

Free beer works in Memphis, if you pay the recipient $100, a free month’s utilities, and a Walmart or Kroger gift card. Otherwise, forget it.

(This is a serious answer. Its what all you get in Memphis, if you get a free vaccine).

I think the biggest motivator for those who are unsure or reluctant is peer pressure from family and friends. I don’t mean they should nag the reluctant, but when they are all vaccinated it makes the unvaccinated person feel like the odd man out. Plus, as the reluctant people see everyone is doing ok their fears will be allayed. I have seen it happen over and over again.

A perk like free beer or donuts I think can help motivate people who just haven’t gotten around to it, but always planned to get it eventually. I think this is mostly young adults who never felt much at risk.

People who are completely irrational about it and dead set against the vaccination are more than likely impossible to influence.

One of my friends just vaccinated her 16 year old even though she was unsure, because it looks like her daughter will have to be vaccinated to work at a local camp. The requirement pushed her to make the decision now. She herself has been vaccinated for months already.

My cousin the nurse says we are having more 30 somethings with it, more deaths and vents. I’m afraid some will learn a very hard lesson on this issue.

I do think that June will be the month that health officials and media can zero in on communities that are very vaccinated are doing well, and communities with very low or no vaccinations are having outbreaks and deaths. I hope the media reports on it. Reports on both, not just the negative.

When we have measles outbreaks there is almost never reporting about how the outbreak was stopped. No emphasis on it dying out because the population is vaccinated.

It is a reward that may tempt a few. However, in my mind, the ultimate reward is freedom to return to life as we knew it.

@JLeslie My son who has three kids aged 15, 13 and 12 is essentially leaving the decision up to each kid. He personally and his girlfriend have decided to not get vaccinated because, per his calculations, the risk of something bad happening to him, her or their children is miniscule.

Last weekend, my wife and I went to their town to celebrate our latest grand child’s first birthday. I had a cold with a persistent cough and some sneezing. I had attempted to get a test through Kaiser but I guess I had been too honest with my answers on the e-visit. So I showed up at here house untested. Fully vaccinated, but untested. Luckily her husband is a practicing physician, so he was able to get me a quick PCR test (with results inside of an hour). I tried to reason with my daughter that the risk of a breakthrough infection is under .0001. She made an excellent point: Dad, I don’t care about the statistics. I WILL NOT risk my child’s health.

The approach is to carpet-bomb the unvaccinated with a variety of incentives so that maybe one of those will convince them to get a jab.

Krispy Kreme has had a vaccine incentive thing going on for a bit, I would love that if we had one near me. MLB has a thing about being in a drawing for tickets. Just Google “vaccine incentives” and a bunch of stuff comes up. I think I remember hearing that Ohio is having a special lotto drawing or somesuch. Free beer is mentioned, but all sorts of incentives are out there.
A couple of the nicer restaurants in my town offer a free cocktail if they see your card.

The advice from experts is that you should not drink alcohol for at least 2 days after the jab and if possible two day before..

The reason for this is to ensure the vaccine has the best possible effect.

I very much doubt in that beer or alcohol will not be offered as an incentive to get vaccinated.
