Are you OK with vomiting?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47069points) June 8th, 2021

Or do you fight it back tooth and nail?
I’m OK with it. Just get it over with. Then I’ll feel better.

Absolutely not ok and it’s one of my biggest fears.

KNOWITALL's avatar

I’m great at it and used to be a ‘puke and rally’ girl in college. :D

@JLeslie Why a ‘biggest fear’? Does it hurt you or something?

anniereborn's avatar

I don’t fight it back tooth and nail. Usually when it’s about to happen I don’t have a lot of control of it. Thankfully it is very rare for me these days.

chyna's avatar

I hate vomiting.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’m having a racist day then @Loli.

flutherother's avatar

It depends where I am. I’m not in the habit of vomiting much but if I’m in the comfort of my own home I would just go with the flow.

janbb's avatar

@Dutchess_III Are you sick today?

elbanditoroso's avatar

It isn’t something I make a habit of doing, but every now and then a good cleansing feels good.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yes I am @janbb. And on an empty stomach. No fun.

Good Lord! I think I’m gonna be sick!

janbb's avatar

@Dutchess_III I won’t hug you but I hope you feel better soon!

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

Better out than in.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Thanks @janbb. I wish to hell.I had insurance.

canidmajor's avatar

Well, yuck! I hope you feel better soon, @Dutchess_III, this is no fun.

And the Q makes sense now.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I’ve been going through shit all day and just remembered that some people will do almost anything not to vomit. Glad I don’t have to fight that too.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Dutchess Is the ACA gone? That was income-based, everyone qualified.
Sorry you feel rough.

Dutchess_III's avatar

The ACA is a set of laws that governs what insurance companies can and can’t do. It’s why they can no longer deny you coverage because of pre existing conditions. The ACA is not a type of insurance.
The only way you could get income based insurance is if your state expanded it’s state insurance. Which Kansas didn’t do, of course. But our new Democratic governor is working on it.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Dutchess I mean Obamacare. :)

Dutchess_III's avatar

Same thing. It’s a set of laws. It’s not a type of insurance.

Demosthenes's avatar

I’m not a fan. I tend to resist it as much as possible but when it happens I’m always like “meh”. The last time I did was 5 years ago though (from drinking). :P

Nomore_lockout's avatar

Hell to the no. I hate that nauseated sensation, and will do anything to try to avoid it. Usually I’ll lie down awhile, and try stay still until it passes. Or knock back some Pepto Bismal. Been like that since I was a kid.

JLeslie's avatar

@KNOWITALL It’s a real thing Emetophobia.

It’s horribly uncomfortable and borders on painful.

The fear kept me from ever trying drugs (the thought of vomiting from withdrawal) I didn’t drink (didn’t want to throw up from drinking too much) and kept me thin when I was young (because overeating made me feel nauseas).

I also am careful in the kitchen about not cross contaminating for fear of food poisoning.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@JLeslie Wow, sounds rough, sorry.

kneesox's avatar

@Dutchess_III I’m so sorry you’re sick and without insurance. Thanks for reminding people that ACA = Obamacare = ACA and that it doesn’t pay the doctor.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Oh I’m feeling better. Thanks y’all.

Right. Obama care doesn’t pay the medical bills. Not even a little bit.

Stupid sicknesses at my age are scary is all.

smudges's avatar

It’s not the vomiting I hate so much as the peeing all over when I do.

jca2's avatar

@Dutchess_III: Is this an issue you have often, or is it just today?

Dutchess_III's avatar

I had hiatle surgery in 2019, when I had insurance..
It’s been like this off and on since then. Eating causes the vomiting, so shit. I don’t need to eat anyway.

kneesox's avatar

Hiatal hernia?

gondwanalon's avatar

When vomit happens there is nothing that I can do to stop it. It’s like an arch reflex.

JustMeLol's avatar

I kinda just deal with it. Once it happens, it happens.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

I fight it tooth and nail, but always relieved when I finally do and get it over with.

Demosthenes's avatar

@SQUEEKY2 Same. And even though that happens every time, I don’t think I’m going to learn from the experience. It’s just a natural reaction.
