ASMR is a YouTube phenomenon where men or women speak in an intimate whisper to make you feel pleasurable and relaxed. It has been developing for years and is starting to be used by advertisers to sell things. Here is an example in an advert for Honey by Gibi, a lady who has made a successful career out of it.

@RedDeerGuy1 I’ve not watched it all the way through but it is to do with the enhanced sound which makes it a more immersive sensory experience. They use top quality microphones and it’s best experienced with good quality speakers or headphones.

I’ve never heard of it until now, and I watched snippets of the clips. @ragingloli is right. Nails on chalkboard.

Coined in 2010, ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) is a relaxing, often sedative sensation that begins on the scalp and moves down the body. Food eating, weird nails on chalkboard, that kind of thing.

Simply put, ASMR is sensory stimulation/relaxation through sound or action or repetition & precision of action. What ASMR is to you, need not necessarily be an ASMR to me. For example, some people are somewhat comforted to watch a baker cut slices of cake with precision. They admire it….I don’t care much for that. Similarly, I get great comfort in watching raindrops hitting the ground or the splat it makes when i put my palm in its path. Most others would find that weird. Each person has his own quirky comfort things….and science has given a name for that quirk. That is why you can see so many genres of ASMR videos on youtube. People take pleasure in weird things. Watching paint dry is also a kind of ASMR…..! You’ll see 1000s of views on such videos on youtube. We’re all crazy in one way or the other…..ASMR is a reflection of that!
