sandpaper? Steel wool? Sponge? What about stencil designs? Should I make a design on the back? If so, any ideas?

I would go with steel wool. If you wanna do the design, use either painters tape or masking tape (there’s a special kind for architecture, get that one if you can, but it’s not necessary). Just lay the masking tape on something like a cutting board or the plastic cutting board used by artists and draw your design on it. Use an x-acto knife to cut out along the edges and throw it on top of your ipod. Then use the steel wool VERY lightly on it. You’ll need to work around the design carefully as to not lift it up.
will steel wool make it look the smoothest?I want it to look as similar as the back of the iPhone as possible.
Ok. Well here are a few sites that use differing things. You can see the results and judge for yourself.
The Original <- I believe this was the original idea maker
The Scourer <- He used a scouring pad. Search for Brushed since the permalink doesn’t work.
The wiki <- This is the ipodwizard wiki which gives generalized info, but says sandpaper is okay and has links to some stenciled ipods.
Nice! Glad it worked out for you!
