Does it really start to rain most frequently between 5:00 - 6:00 PM, or does it just seem that way?
I realize that I would be more aware of rain during that time, because it corresponds to commute time, but it does not rain all that often during the morning commute. It also seems that weather forecasts seem to most frequently talk about possible rain in the late afternoon. You can’t get any later in the afternoon than between 5:00 and 6:00.

During the heat of the day, moisture / humdity evaporates into the clouds, so the water content is really a gas (vapor).
As the sun goes down and it starts to cool, the water (which is a gaseous state) begins to cool and be too heavy to be held in the air. So it rains.

In Florida in the summer the thunderstorms typically start between 1:00 and 4:00 depending on how far west or east you live. Clearwater around 4:00, Boca Raton around 1:00, Orlando around 3:00, and in each location like clockwork daily mid July through mid September. The rest of the year it’s different and not daily.
I wish it would rain here sometime ever.
@Caravanfan This past spring we had very dry weather for weeks. Retention lakes were incredibly low and lawns drying out. Finally the rains started up.
I hope you get rain if you need it. Especially around July 4th it scares me when areas are so dry. People can be so stupid setting of their own fireworks.
It must be something that is particular to where you live. Here, it seems to me, it rains on Thursday.
I recall a study in Japan that proved traffic patterns during the business week caused an increase in weekend rain. I will look for it.

@LuckyGuy Several years ago I read that it’s most likely to rain on a Saturday. I don’t know if that was for Florida or in general. That would line up with the traffic theory.
It would be interesting to know if the pattern was very different last April when rains are typically frequent and we were in a lockdown.
@Caravanfan I’m sorry to hear that. I guess eventually the fires create a future situation of much lower wildfire frequency, but in the meantime it’s terrible. My cousin lost her house a few years ago in a fire in California and moved to Oregon.
I’ve noticed when hill walking that showers are most likely in early to mid afternoon.
