Do you know of any reliable online therapy service?

Asked by Yeahright (3880points) July 3rd, 2021

If you or any one you know have used this type of therapy service, can you recommend a site?
Also, in your opinion/experience, how does online therapy compare to in-person therapy?
Is it better to make the effort and have a traditional in-person session? And price ways, are they different?
Thanks in advance. I appreciate your input.

My daughter uses betterhelp.com. She has had good experiences with it. She has had a few therapists, and she said changing therapists is easy. That is important, because it sometimes takes a few tries to find a therapist you engage well with.

I have a traditional therapist myself. We met face to face until the pandemic forced us to meet virtually. There is an important advantage meeting in person. The doctor can read your body language. When meeting virtually, it is paramount to be radically open and vocal about what you’re experiencing. The doctor will need this to best treat you and offer therapeutic interventions to match what you’re presenting.

Yes, virtual therapy can work, but you’ve got to be even more involved than in the traditional setting.

My friend raves about hers, I’ll see if I can find out what site it is, then get back to you.

I have seriously considered betterhelp.com myself. Emailed back and forth with them. There is a discount for those on disability, but they never asked me for any proof. I think it came out to 45 dollars a week. I would have done it if I could pay weekly. It seems that can only be done if you are paying the regular price. Otherwise it is monthly. I hope you find something that helps!

So I have a few, uhm…personal issues, but I’ve found a good counselor that schedules in person office visits plus after hours support via phone/text.

But I think if I were starting over & just focusing on web based services I’d look at recommendations on this site:

One cool thing is that a few providers on their list accept insurance.

Good luck.
