Would you agree with me when I would state that Fluther is an obscure website/community?

Asked by rebbel (35553points) August 25th, 2021

If you are, can you respond with one reason why you agree?

I sometimes lol in my head if I think about the thirty+ people around the world that are already interacting with each other on a relatively small site, for over a decade.

Sure it is. Newbies come and sometimes go but at heart there are, as you say, 30 or 40 of us around the world who have been interacting for years. It’s pretty amazing.

Fluther is definitely obscure.

cookieman's avatar

Indeed. We are off the path that is off the beaten path.

I have seen someone here say that we have fewer members than we used to. Is that right? It seems to me that the number of questions asked and the number of responses to a question has been about the same.

@LostInParadise: There are less people here then there were in around 2008–2010.

If the Internet is the Amazon rain forest, then we are the undiscovered tribe.

^^ I like this analogy.

Yes.

This site is so obscure, people find it by misspelling “flutter”.

It’s so obscure, the CIA uses it for a safe house.

It’s so obscure, astronomers think it may actually be a black hole.

It’s so obscure, that even though the moderators want to suspend me they’ve decided “Well…she sort of is already”.

HaHaHa!!

Yeah, I’d say so. There are so many “sexier”, graphic driven social media sites available these days that it makes Fluther look like a relic from the past. I never see Fluther promoted or recommended by anyone. How would anyone know that Fluther exists but for the few remaining members loyal to the site?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@SABOTEUR the spammers seem not to have any trouble finding us.

SABOTEUR's avatar

@LostInParadise Seeing the same names repeatedly is a sure sign membership has decreased.

SABOTEUR's avatar

@RedDeerGuy1 Fluther is probably one of the few sites left for them to go.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@SABOTEUR then our obscurity was beneficial. For a bit. I found this site from an obscure reference from AnswerBag about a site of “grammar nazis”. I was curious and I decided to stay.
Fluther is home for me. My writing skills and style has improved from the 11 years that I have been a member.
