England peeps: How are things looking there for you Covid-wise?
Caravan is touring in October and I had always planned to come across the pond and see them. The band leader’s wife is encouraging me to not travel and to stay away and she frankly thinks I’m crazy to even consider it right now. And she has a point. My wife and I are vaccinated, obviously, but schools are going back in session. I saw this report (first 25 minutes are key—the following is Q&A) and it does not fill me with confidence.

If you look at the chat next to that video it does not look good. Here’s one quote:
“Compared to this time last year we have 30 times the daily infections. Government is putting too much faith in vaccinations”
The situation isn’t great just now. The number of confirmed cases is shooting up and is expected to rise further following the schools going back and restrictions on public gatherings easing. On the positive side hospitalisations haven’t risen much as the vaccine seems to be working. Personally, I wouldn’t attend an event where people are gathering in large numbers just now but the situation is fluid. This site might be helpful.
I know some fully vaccinated people are getting sick here. Vaccine is a good defense but not bullet proof. I’m starting to be concerned but not enough yet to change any local travel plans.
There is also mention on your link of several end of summer large festivals amid school starting. I would not go this Fall although I am hoping to go next summer.
Thanks everybody. Our local health director is my best friend (and my doctor). He was originally, “You’re vaccinated, you’ll be fine.” Then he saw the video and was like well…
They’re going to have an update next week. I’ll continue to delay my decision. Plan B is to go to New England to see the fall colors.
@Caravanfan You certainly deserve some kind of vacation!
@janbb I am okay on the vacation front. We were going to go backpacking last week but the fires closed everything down so we went to a VRBO in Avila Beach.
