Do you like a lot of light in your house?

Asked by JLeslie (65722points) August 28th, 2021 from iPhone

Can be either natural or from lightbulbs.

As I get older I want more light for some reason. I find it depressing in low lit rooms now.

I even like the lights on in rooms I’m not in if I can see into the other room from where I’m sitting. This goes against my nature since I don’t like to waste electricity, so I rarely indulge.

Lighting is probably my number one for living spaces.

I’d rather live in a small but well-lit space, than a large but dim space.

Natural lighting is the preference. But a good light bulb is also worth every penny.

I have always preferred darker areas.
Bright enough where I don’t bump into things, but not more.

I love having natural light in my flat; seeing the sun shining brightly on my carpets and across the walls never fails to cheer me up. In the evening I don’t mind it becoming a little dim indoors as I can more clearly see the colours of the clouds and the sunset sky.

Yes, I do, particularly natural light. My Florida condo had 7 skylights and was bathed in light. My home up North is darker but my reading chair is between two windows.

I prefer a lot of light. The one exception is the bedroom. We have the windows covered with blackout shades.

I love natural light to a degree, and rarely use my overheads at all.
In the evening it’s usually dark (with tv) or my red low lights. I don’t find dark depressing but vibrant.

I can do well with little light, but I would prefer a well-lit room.

Any light will do for me.

Yes a lot of light except when sleeping, need it comfortable to sleep in dark.

My late mother passed away in her 90’s year of age and could had prevented loss of her eyesight had she put brighter lights on in the evenings.

As so many older seniors do they try to keep the costs down on electricity instead at the detriment of their eyeysight diminishing.
When I first moved into this Seniors Apartment building was almost blinded by the bright lights that were installed in our apartments.
It was like glaring at the Bright Sun!
Special florescent light fixture in the kitchen and its brightness is overpowering but necessary for some here who might have eye issues, as I understand.

Yes, I like a lot of light. I suppose it is because I don’t see as well as I once did but I’ve always like a well lit room. Even when watching TV or playing games, I need to be able see clearly.

Only when I am working. Otherwise I like it dark and moody.
Right now I am thinking of buying a retro style table lamp with a flame-simulating LED lightbulb.

I prefer natural light (and Air) and plenty of it.
My beach house gets bathed in sunlight starting before 5am in the summer. I love soaking it in.
My mountain house does not get overhead morning sun until about 10am because of the trees and being located on the west side of the ridge. I still enjoy the natural more subdued lighting.
I do like soft accent lighting in rooms that I am not in at night. I do like stronger light at night if I am reading, but soft light if I am relaxing to music or a movie.

When looking for an apt or house, lighting is the first consideration after location. Low light exacerbates my bipolar depression; and it’s kind of weird, but I despise an overhead light. I want lots of natural light, and after dark, lamps in the room I’m in.

I used to insist all the lights possible in my room, but I found out my eyes had developed cataracts and blinding me. Since my surgery, I only use one light behind me. The overhead light hurts my eyes.
