What is your comfort film?
I want to increase my list of comfortable films, so tell me which movie you are rewatching when you feel sad or just don’t want to relax

The African Queen or
The Gods Must be Crazy
Oh I LOVE The God’s Must be Crazy! They have a TGMBC 2 that’s even better.
My Cousin Vinny
Seabiscuit
“Pure Luck” is one of my favorites to put me in a good mood. Over the holidays if I’m feeling lonely I put on “Pocketful of Miracles”. It’s not a Christmas movie but is set during the holidays. Never fails to cheer me up.
Casablanca
Fight Club
Lawrence Of Arabia
The Road To Rio
Almost Famous. Love that movie.
I don’t really have a ‘comfort movie’ or even rewatch films much, but I will always watch Shawshank Redemption if it’s on.
Around Christmas, I have to watch Elf and the musical Scrooge with Albert Finney.
The Great Escape / Bridge on the River Kwai / My Favorite Year The last of which I can’t find anywhere.
Local Hero is still a good one.
OMG @janbb & @Dutchess_III I didn’t know anyone else had even heard of that movie!! I love it! Now I gotta see TGMBC 2!
The Goodbye Girl & The Big Chill are a couple of my faves.
Bill and Ted’s excellent adventure.
King of the Kickboxers
Time Chasers
The Day After Tomorrow
I don’t know that I would call it a comfort film, but it sure is one that I come back to when I want a break. It’s a feelgood movie that isn’t corny and stupid: O Brother, Where Art Thou? The performances are outstanding, the odyssey is absorbing, and the music is great.
I also like to return to several of Kurosawa’s movies, particularly Ikiru and The Men Who Tread on the Tiger’s Tail.
When I really want an escape, though, it’s the Harry Potter series or the entire extended-edition boxed set of Lord of the Rings, wishing only that I could edit out Liv Tyler.
Oh, yes, and I enjoy seeing RED again when I’m up for something silly and fun after weathering too much Sturm und Drang in real life. I guess that amounts to a kind of comfort.
Young Frankenstein
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
The Sound of Music
Mary Poppins
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Gone in Sixty Seconds
Anything by Alfred Hitchcock
@janbb yep. There is much nostalgia in watching Hitch movies to me. It takes me back to watching them with my parents and siblings as a kid. Watching Hitch movies around Thanksgiving has been a tradition and still is for even my kids.
Love Actually would be my number one. My Big Fat Greek Wedding would make me smile, though I am not sure it would rank high enough to be a comfort movie. One little known one that I like is What We Did On Our Holiday, starring Tennant, Pike, Connolly. Used to be free on YouTube, now it is rent or buy. It’s worth the money.
