When do we use “present simple”?

The most common uses of the present simple (more commonly referred to as the “simple present” in English) are:

(1) to describe a current or general state of being (e.g., “she is happy” or “I love ice cream”), and
(2) to describe common or habitual events (e.g., “he plays the violin” or “they don’t drive”).
