What line would have worked better than Han Solos "give us time to lock a reactor down" attempt at bluffing?

In the first Star Wars movie? Where Han and Luke break into the detention center to rescue the princess?

There was a fire in the garbage room, some ammo cooked off.

I think the problem with his story was more about his delivery, than with what he tried to say. That is, trying to say there’s a dangerous situation but that it doesn’t make sense to send anyone else from outside yet.

Having just been in combat inside a hostile base, it was understandably hard for him to think straight and keep his cool. That’s one of the things the first Star Wars movie did better than any of the others – show people having appropriate mental distress caused by the violence and danger.

Now that I think of it . I would have let the other prisoners go, and give them the stormtroopers blasters.
