What, in your opinion, are important (or interesting) issues that seem to be avoided/ignored on Fluther?

This is not a criticism of the people, so please don’t take it that way.
But…
Banality seems to be the rule.

I don’t think that’s an accurate assessment. We have covered so much ground since I’ve been here (2009) I don’t think there is virtually any topic we haven’t discussed.
Meaning you’ve finally run out of topics?
I get that.
Same thing happens when you invite the same people over and over to a cookout.
Shouldn’t this be a meta question?
No. We haven’t run out of topics. There are hundreds of new topics to come.
In the last week or so we’ve been hit with some kids trying to interest us in kid things, like avatars. That’s mundane to me too.
We haven’t run out of topics. In 2009 we would never have had Covid in our vocabulary, let alone known what it means. Something new comes up each year, each day that we can discuss.
Are you bored? Poor baby. Then introduce some new stuff so all of us who are reveling in our “banality” can get excited about life again.
And I call bullshit on your “this is not a criticism” line. Calling a group of people banal is just obnoxious.
And @elbanditoroso is right, this should be in Meta.
We’re not entertaining you enough? Then maybe this isn’t your kind of place.
@canidmajor
I am sure the group of people are great.
I was referring to the questions.
My mom loved me to death. She didn’t talk much so she was never the life of the party. You can’t possess every virtue.
Anyway, this clearly got you pretty excited so maybe we are on to something.
@kneesox
Not asking to be entertained. Just curious. I got plenty of people and places who are entertaining.
I don’t know what you consider important or interesting but if you’re looking for politics and religion, we’ve kind of done them to death in recent years and seem to be in a lull for now. But you can raise whatever you like and see where it goes.
Human overpopulation of the planet and the consequences thereof.
Why don’t you think of one and ask as a new question? See if it’s ignored?
Or is the question a lie? Is what you really mean not “some topics are avoided on Fluther” but “people here aren’t creative enough to think of interesting topics”? These are two different issues, don’t mix them up.
Current events change and will always bring new topics. Last year it was BLM and George Floyd and the election, and Covid. This year it’s more Covid and more Trump/Biden and now Afghanistan. There will always be questions people ask for advice or discussions about situations, like boyfriend/girlfriend stuff, or work issues.
There are not a whole lot of people here so the quantity of posts is limited. Maybe invite some people to the site, or maybe Fluther isn’t for you. There’s always Reddit, which is huge and probably has zillions of topics and posts. Maybe that’s more your speed.
Nothing is averted or ignored here, that I’m aware of. I’m pleased that almost anything can be discussed, and generally (mostly) people keep it civil. As opposed to another place I used to frequent, which was closed down several months ago. I suppose some of us, I may be the worst, get pretty animated on the subject of politics, but that has been a touchy subject for decades. Long before the web even existed.
In the time it took to ask this question and with the same amount of energy, you could have asked a question you genuinely want answers to, but you chose to insult us instead. You lack imagination.
I don’t think he lacks imagination @Hawaii_Jake. Far from it. This is what I think is the real reason:
I have been following his activities here for some time now. And I seem to notice that every time he posts an opinion, it’s either completely different from the rest of the responses (like this) or just out of place for no reason (like this). And his answers are always very short and he has made no attempt to elaborate what his point is.
I have a feeling he is just trying to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian, instead of actually being passionate about any opinion that just happens to be unpopular.
You are free to do whatever you want, say whatever you want. But expecting people to fawn over you for being different from the rest of the crowd is just laughable.
Side note: on a thread about lesser-known historical figures, he responded by writing his name. That is the only answer that was modded that I’m aware of, and I’m not sure if he understands why it was modded.
I think we need to discuss your attitude.
Sir.
“Don’t want to offend you, but…..”
“I’m not a racist, but…..”
@rebbel: “Don’t take this the wrong way but….”
It looks like @Mimishu has your number! Haha!
Just ask what you want and see what you get. Each member decides the content. So if you’re part of this collective, help make it less banal.
How old is your pick-up truck?
I’m not one of those trolls who can’t read the room, but…
Why do chickens have white and dark meat?
Parts of the chicken that does a lot of work, like walking, is dark meat. The parts that don’t get a work out is white.
@Dutchess_III So what, is the chicken doing dead lifts or something?
So, what other animals/birds have white and dark meat?
Are these important (or interesting) issues or what???
@Dutchess_III What color are the butt muscles. They do shit a lot so I anticipate butt muscles getting a big workout so they should be dark meat, right?
@Caravanfan – Dutchess can speak for herself, but personally I think my butt muscles are pink.
And if these aren’t interesting issues, someone has to lower their standards.
I know I did.
@JLoon You think your butt muscles are pink?? Is that before or after they’re cooked??
@kritiper – Ha! Definitely before dude.
I’m still in the wild & off the menu ;)
Why is it that, just today, my sister asks me why there are white and dark meat on a chicken??
Why is it that so many cartoon characters only have four fingers?
Would you get upset if your royal dragon had less than five toes?
