Is there such a thing as being a food racist?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) September 11th, 2021

I hate black licorice. I love red Smarties. I would not eat a black banana. I dislike dark chocolate.

What about you?

I used to avoid foods that my father ate. Like olives, peppers and white meat from chicken and turkey.
I eat all veggies now.

Humor welcome.

Is color race? No. Does food have a race? So, no. No there is not.

Is there food preference? Yes. Is there food _prejudice and bias? Sure. Does it sometimes extend to entire national and/or ethnic cuisines? Yes.

Now, could ethnic culinary biases stem from racism and xenophobia? Yes.

Like Zaku said, no.

But yes.

Mostly.

I think turkey is a vegetable though. I mean, look into their eyes…

If you won’t eat foods because you associate them with a particular race that you dislike, then sure. It would just be the more familiar kind of racism extended to food, but you could call that “food racism” if you wanted.

I absolutely won’t eat Arabs, Jews, Hispanics, Asians, Russians, or Germans.

@filmfann So you will eat Caucasians and blacks?

kritiper's avatar

The word “bias” would be more accurate than “racist.”

Hamburgers rule!

@seawulf575 Germans are considered Caucasians.

Well, I don’t like kiwi because I have a thing against hairy fruits… :P

Supposedly, if you serve watermelon and fried chicken on a Black Pride day, you are racist. Also serving tacos or enchiladas on May 5th is racist, as well as rice on Chinese New Year. At least that’s what the news reports indicate.

This thing is getting sillier and sillier.

@bob_ – Lol! That’s some gourmet racism ;)
